3.0 out of 5 stars a blessing and a curse
see - i got exactly what i was hoping for in this game. turns out that was its downfall on the psp. its played just like on my gamecube and my brother's ps2...using the analog stick to swing back then forward. the problem is the analog stick is way too sensitive. it feels like you're pulling it straight back but you get the blue or yellow streak almost every time (hook or...

Graphics - 4
While the graphics look crystal clear on the beautiful PSP screen, the details are not as impressive as I had hoped, especially when compared to some of the other PSP launch titles. The greens look like plain astroturf most of the time, and it is hard to distinguish any differences between the fairways and the rough other than their color.

Sound - 4
Again, I am comparing this game to other PSP launch titles like Ridge Racer. The music is inferior, but does not play such a large role in the game. The sound effects, on the other hand, are pretty good.

Gameplay - 3
Very, very long load times. Much longer than you are accustomed to on the consoles or for other PSP games. While the game is relatively fun while you are actually playing, you will spend way too much time waiting for each hole to load. This is unacceptable for a portable system, where the point of the game is to prevent boredom, rather than produce it.

Content - 5
The career mode (tour) is a lot of fun. You open courses, competitors, equipment, etc. as you progress. It definitely helps the replayability. The WiFi capabilities, however, are what make this worth buying.

Total - 4
This is a very good portable version of the console golf games. My main concern about this game is that you can't even think about turning it on if you have less than 30 min to burn. With all the loading involved, nine holes will take at least that long to play. Although the game is fun, if you plan to use your PSP to fill short periods of time (while commuting, etc.), then a different game would suit your needs better.

This game is quite awesome. It is the second title that I got for the PSP and I just can't stop playing it. I've never played the Tiger Wood games before so I'm just thrilled to death about all the customization options. It's really fun, and it is challenging so that you want to play more and more to improve your personal golfer. All that aside, the load times SUCK. If you wait too long on the title screen, it goes to a loading screen for about two minutes and then starts playing a demo movie. When you hit a button, it goes to another loading screen and then takes you back to the title screen. There is also a lot of time in between each hole. The game is phenomenal if you can stand the loading times. It's a five star game that loses a star because of loading...

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good game, June 14, 2005

Overall, Tiger Woods for PSP is pretty good. However, there are some things I think that could be changed to make this game a little bit better.

First off, the loading time is awful. Each hole has to load and it actually takes longer to load all the holes then it does to play the holes.

Secondly, the made up courses such as the Amazon are way too difficult in tournament mode. I have over a 100 rating in each attribute category and I feel great when I shot par at these courses, but the computer always shots -9 or better. If you actually play them head-to-head, they can't shot lower than 80 at these courses. On the other hand, once your attributes are over 100 the real courses are way too easy. I shot 54 at Harbor Town.

Lastly, when you get to the Legends Level, you face some of the greatest golfers of all time. This level is actually challenging and the only thing I would have like to have seen different is actually playing a full 18 holes against the likes of Palmer, Hogan, or Nicklaus, instead of the best of 9 holes.

Overall, I love the game. I am deployed and I usually play a round each night, so it has made my time go by a little faster here. If they could make the changes mentioned above the game would be a 5, but I can only give it a 4 as is.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice game, September 21, 2005

Well, Tiger is a great game. Nice graphics, commentary, gamepalay is not bad, the only thing I didn't like was the fact that to make a swing you have to use the joystick, and it is rather difficult (to do it just right) with the joystick being so small on the PSP. So I guess it's more on SONY than on EA Sports. Great game overall

Well, what can I say? I am a huge fan of the Tiger Woods series, and have wasted many a moment either playing it on my own or battling in a round of skins with friends on my XBox. This was the third game that I picked up for the PSP after it came out, as I knew very well I had to own it. It doesn't quite match up to playing PGA Tour 2005 on console, but it does a pretty good job considering. My main issues with this was that the load times a pretty horrendous. I was ready to throw the thing after the first time I played just because I got tired of waiting. This is why I lowered my 'fun' rating to 3 stars. Otherwise, it is still very entertaining. It took me a little while to get used to it, but once I was it didn't seem as bad....but it sucks that I had to get used to it to begin with. Anyway, if you liked the console games of this series, you will definitely enjoy this.....waste time playing golf anywhere you go!

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best handheld golf game, April 15, 2005

If you want a portable golf game that is very close to matching the console versions, then look no further. This is a great game that is a lot of fun to play and take with you on the PSP. This version still has the feature where you create your own golfer with lots of customizable options. You can also upgrade their skill points after earning some cash on the green. Its true that the load times are pretty long. Easily the longest I have seen when compared to the other PSP games I have. However, don't let that scare you off from playing a great game. The controls are very well done although its not quite as easy as on the consoles. Also, this game is much better on the PSP than it is on the GBA or DS. Anyways, this game is worth getting if your a golf fan and want a new game for your PSP.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tee Time!!!, April 3, 2005

I love playing this game. This was one of the first titles I bought for my PSP when it was released. Granted some of the load times are a bit long, but if you have some time to spend you should definitely give this game a shot. The graphics are great for a handheld game. No other game even comes close to matching it. The real fun for me is the challenge of creating a golfer from scratch and improving upon his attributes until he's able to compete with Tiger or Vijay. I play as Tiger and win as much money as I can so that I can improve my created golfer. That's the quickest way to earn lots of money so that your golfer can be competitive in a short amount of time. I highly recommend this game. I think it's well worth the $50.00 you'll spend to get it. I hope this review was helpful...

4.0 out of 5 stars Horrible load times, April 14, 2005

This game is very fun and has great game physics. It's definitely worth a buy but keep 2 things in mind. The graphics are good but just ok. I also have Ridge Racer and after seeing it, I know Tiger Woods could have looked better.

The second, more pressing issue is load times which are TERRIBLE. After ever screen choice the game loads and after ever hole the game loads. These aren't short, ready in a sec. load times either. It's about 30 seconds from hole to hole, 45 sec. to 1min between setting up a game and the worst is starting a new game from start up which literally takes 3 to 5 minutes. This is the reason I only put the device in sleep mode and don't completely power off because the load time is unacceptable.

This is the first title I purchased for PSP - and it was worth it! All the glitz of the original PS2 version - create yourself and work your way through the tour. Only drawback is long load times...
