I was hesitant to purchase this game at first, thinking there was no way that this 'portable' could match it's console counterparts. I had no idea how tiger woods would fit into the whole scheme of the DS and was afraid of being dissapointed. I should have known better considering I played almost every game in the series, each one giving me endless reasons to play for hours on end.
Well, I am more than pleased to say that the use of the touch screen and stylus is flawless and goes seamless with the tiger woods title and makes so much sense for the genre. This is by far the most intuitive idea I have come accross for a golf tile in a long time; using a touch screen to swing your club. The touch-screen swing takes some getting used to but once you get a handle on it, you'll wonder to yourself why something like this hasn't blessed us with its simple genius sooner; you'll wish your Xbox or PS2 had a touch-screen controller for your Tiger Woods games. This might even beat out the analog stick. The touch-screen control has two bars, one for your power (backwards motion of your swing) and the other for your stroke(forward motion of your swing). Move the stylus down the power curve bar (the higher up on the power you start from, the greater the distance), then move the sylus up the 'stroke' bar, trying to move the stylus as straight up as possible to prevent a hook or slice. The screen then tells you your percentage and the straigtness of your shot (98 %, 1.5 - angle of your shot). You can use the power boost (by rapidly rubbing it repeatedly until red or flashing) to boost any of your shots before swinging your club. You can also put spin on your ball via touch screen control, move the stylus over the ball on the touch screen to make it spin in any direction. Once again, great use of the touch screen and the DS. If you don't trace the power bar completely, a percentage of your shot will be distracted. If you do not move the stylus straight up, your shot will hook or slice. Perfecting your touch screen swing is not only challenging and fun but also more realistic for a golf title; the analog makes sense but is often too easy. The graphics emulate one of the earlier Tiger Woods titles in that the landscapes are rather pixelated, however the character models and animations are pretty top-notch. Despite their jagged renderings, the landscapes are still impressive for a portable and more than do the trick for gameplay. They remind me of PS one renderings. The use of dual screens is fantastic, while one screen gives you the top overview of the course like a retro game (think of a well improved version of NES Open), while the other gives you the 3-dimensional persepective of your ball sailing through the course. Both perspectives provide great utility for placement and shot calling. CONS: The game has no commentary, this may or not be a bad thing. It really doesn't take a whole lot away from the game. It's just as good without, although sometimes it's nice hearing them comment about one of your amazing shots. But can be equally irritating hearing them comment about one of your poor ones or hearing them repeat themselves. The crowd noise makes up for it. The game has no replay or replay saves for some of your best shots or archives. For you to treasure later on or show off to your friends. This feature does hurt it's score some. The game has character customizations but it is very limited. There aren't a whole lot of clothing, accessories, equipment and other items to choose from or buy like we are used to with the console versions. Also, only new courses are unlocked as you progress. No new clubs, equipment or clothes. This is a bit disappointing. Pros: Addictive classic gameplay as you move up the ranks from Beginner to Amateur to Pro. The new touchscreen stylus swing adss a lot to an every great game. Giving fans even more reasons to be consumed by its greatness. Many courses to play on with unlockeable content. All styles of play are availabe: stroke, match, skins and tournament. Matchups, challenges and tourneys are all present and offer endless fun. It has everything that made the originals great and then some with DS moldings. A must buy for Tiger Woods fans and DS owners.

On the subway back from the city of New York... its crowded and I flip open my DS to challenge the Tiger on the links. I am dressed with a red cap (backwards), cargo pants and sandals. Grab my clubs and off the the green I am going... This game ROCKS!! I love the control and the overall gaming experience. I see the CITY folks looking at me as I voice my frustration while I overshoot the greens because of someone pushing my elbow in the middle of my swing. Playing vs Tiger there is no room for error. I'll have to be perfect from here on... I was so inside this game that I didn't realize that I missed my stop. Hell!! now I'm not only late to my appointment, but I lost to the Tiger... I'll be back, but this time I'll wear a beanie and prepare to cry Tiger... Lots of fun, great visuals and definately a good pick up while on the go or at home. Just don't miss your next stop... Stay cleared the closing doors... **** 1/2

Although the method of swinging is very good and is challenging but not impossible, the graphics for the top screen let it down a bit. Some trees and walls look very 'pixely'. The worst factor about this game is the out of bounds, stray too far from the rough along the fairways and you are out of bounds (not like in the ps2 version where you have a good distance to recover from). The sound is very realistic and worth having the volume up. The tour mode is good and the quick play is handy, though another minor downside is that it isn't single-card multiplayer. A good game to buy if you are intresested in golf, wouldn't recommend it for someone who doesn't know about golf that well.

This game would get a five, but the graphics are less than expected (based on seeing Mario 64 DS). The game has tons of features. You can build up your player (much like improving a car in a driving game), and there is open play, and a tour mode. My favorite part of the game is the putting, which seems weak at first, but is actually very fun one you learn the system(you must use your caddy-on the longest putts the caddy will not give advice). A great initial release for the DS.

I came to this game from playing the awesome XBox version, so was disappointed by the limited character customization options. That said, I believe the gameplay is vastly more challenging and superior to the XBox version. The touch screen (especially with the swing) makes it feel like a truer adaptation of the game of golf. Plus, the putting is trickier. This isn't a game for people who think of golf as a soothing pastime. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 for the DS is guaranteed to make your heart pump harder; my roommate can attest to that after hearing me scream bloody murder at Justin Rose in the middle of the night during play.
That said, were I to own an XBox, I'd probably rarely play the DS version. It's a great portable game, but it just doesn't seem to have the cool surprises that the XBox does. All the characters and courses are revealed at the very start; the only question is when you unlock them. Granted, I could just be underestimating the game, but I am inclined to believe that, given the cool stuff I'd already unlocked in similar progress through my friend's XBox version, the DS version contains many fewer. Here's hoping I'm wrong, though.

Back when the DS first came out, I was eagerly awaiting the release of Tiger Woods PGA Tour for the DS. When it came out soon after, I was lucky enough to get the game on sale. Sadly, it just isn't that great of a game. I can see what the developers were trying to accomplish but rubbing the touchscreen with the stylus isn't a whole lot of fun. It makes it easy to make mistakes and for some reason, I just was never able to get into it that much. Also, although those who only have a DS will probably want to wait for the 2006 version(unless you must have a golf game for the DS), the psp version of Tiger Woods is much better. Also I have had more fun with the gba version of Mario Golf and I would highly recommend that over this. Still, its not the worst game ever made and if you get it with an open mind, you can probably get some enjoyment out of it.

Best hand held golf game - EVER,
By

I have a 12 year old son who is a wizard at all electronic games and soundly beats me at all of them, except golf. I have played both the console based golf games and the hand held golf games and I will tell you that this is the best one ever. The other games only require you to read the shot, set the shot and then tap the keys 2 or 3 times to strike the ball. Too easy. This game uses the touch screen and requires you to actually 'swing' the club. The incremental skill required makes this game the only one that provides a challenge.
I have played several of the other DS games and believe that this is the best one in terms of using the touch screen to its fullest. Before you buy the game, just make sure that you have plenty of time to play it.

This game is VERY fun. The graphics are near console quality. I've never been a fan of golf games but I have beaten my other DS games so decided to get this game to entertain me until Mario Kart comes out. This game is better than the consoles because the swing system uses the touch screen technology. You choose your club, distance, accuracy and how much boost you want with the touch screen. My characted is near maxed out. The only problem this game has is that beating Tiger is IMPOSSIBLE! Overshoot one green, and you pretty much lose. Also, you can play multiplayer with one cartridge. The courses are very realistic and exact models of the real ones. Seeing this game, I am excited to see Need For Speed Underground come out and next years Madden. I know these games will be good because EA will have plenty of time to create and develop these games. This game ranks three of the current games out for DS. The better games are Mario 64 and Asphalt Urban GT/Ridge Racer.

My friend lent me this game for a couple of days... after that i directly went to buy it! I love the inovative way they make you swing and rubbing the panel for a boost. I also love the sound, with a good shot the crowd goes wild and the sound of the club hitting the ball is great, not to mention birds chirping in the trees.
I recomend this game to anyone who likes golf and has a DS GREAT GAME |
