Quietly devastating,
This review is from: Tiger, Tiger (Paperback)
I read this book without ever losing focus -- Craze writes with such quiet but persistent authority, detailing subtleties between mother and daughter, father and daughter, a girl and her mean teenage babysitter, brother and sister, a young girl and an egomaniacal guru -- and more. Scenes unfold beautifully, observations of nature and internal conflict flow seamlessly alongside the plot. Her beautiful writing can take a sidelong glace and make it communicate everything. The tone of the book, restrained and careful, gains in power as the chips come crashing down. This was a lovely and sad novel and I highly recommend it!

The title of my review says it all:
I can't really put my finger on exactly why, just the way it's written is so honest.

I really loved this book!!! I'm so grateful to Amazon and my Kindle, for books like this are like buried treasures that slip through the cracks in the mountains of book releases. I never would have known that it was published and I had been waiting for its release!
This book reminded me of another favorite book of mine, Hideous Kinky, by Esther Freud. I am not a writer or critic so not great at writing about books, but what I CAN say is that I am a busy executive with a short attention span, and I was able to really enjoy this story and these rich interesting characters. Nowadays, the "ashram" is very hip, but to see this cult like existence from the eyes of these two lovable British kids was fascinating and rewarding. I was an English major in college and Ms. Craze's writing remind me of the quality of literature that we would have been studying in one of the classes on current fiction. I highly recommend this! the poignant story-telling, the subtle tone, and the ease in which the reader relates to each and every character made the words of this book flow off the pages and into the hearts of its readers. memorable characters, unique plot, and altogether fantastic story. a sequel that stands alone as well as compliments its predecessor. Great read.
