BACK COVER:
"I don't want a wife. I can do without that kind of restriction in my life."
Blaize's harsh words suited Leila fine. He might be a high-powered businessman with more than his fari share of good looks, but she was only interested in her secretarial role. At least, that was what she told herself. . . only she wasn't immune to Blaize's charm, nor to the needs of his two children. But wasn't she heading for heartbreak, especially as the glamorous Katherine already had a secure hold on Blaize' s affections?
My Review: I so loved this book. I liked that Leila was a strong character. She came from nothing and she had that in common w/ Blaize. However, while he strived for lots of money she just wanted to be content in her life. She fought her attraction to Blaize and it really looked like he was a womanizer in several instances. But then there was someone behind the scenes feeding that information to others. Leila seemed to have a bead on quite a few of the other characters, but she was a bit skewed in her assessment of Blaize.
I didn't like that for some reason Katherine had decided that Leila's secretarial duties also involved becoming a servant. I wanted Leila to speak up at that point, but it was later explained that she gave in to her demands in order to avoid another argument. Blaize was willing to do a lot for his children and he knew that they needed a mother figure, but he soon realized his choice wasn't a very good one. At some points one would not be wrong in thinking that Blaize could been charged w/ sexual harassment, but Leila didn't seem to ever want to pursue that. She did acknowledge that her boss would have forgiven her some things if she explained them to her though. So that was something.
I liked the way Blaize and Leila grew together and shared things w/ one another. Things they had never shared w/ anyone else. I was loath to put the book down before arriving at the last page! It was truly a fast moving story that kept me involved.
