Jamie Kerrick Was An Infamous Rogue

And if Sarah Abernathy ever wanted to see her father again, joining forces with the scandalous seaman seemed her only choice. Though it looked as though finding her father might well result in losing her heart…to an unprincipled adventurer.

Captain Jamie Kerrick had absolute control over his ship and its crew. As he did with all aspects of his life, including his emotions. So how was it that the innocent daughter of a simple missionary could throw his tightly run world into utter chaos?

From Publishers Weekly

James Kerrick, a black sheep viscount turned privateer, might not be the most promising of passions for Sarah Abernathy, a missionary's daughter. But then, who would one expect to find in a Macao brothel? On the shelf at age 24, Sarah has looked after her family for years while her father has gone on dangerous religious missions. Now he's disappeared and she fears foul play. Will James take her to search for her father? While not a conventional beauty, she's got the strong personality, sense of humor, latent passion, and curves to entice James. Against his will, she stows away on his ship and what follows is an adventurous and delightful water-bound road romance that includes a steamy stay on a deserted isle for these two would-be lovers. Retired Air Force Colonel Lovelace?whose military romance, Call of Duty, got another starred review (Forecasts, June 29) combines a real sense of 18th century China and characters filled with the honor and responsibility. Plus she writes with such humor and passion that the most jaded romance reader will be sated.

4.0 out of 5 stars High adventure on the sea, and then some!, July 21, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Tiger's Bride (Harlequin Historical, No. 423, 10th Anniversary Promotion) (Paperback)
Sarah's father is a missing. All hails to have help come
to her at the local mission go unanswered. So, taking the situation full under her own steam, she marches out to a local brothel and finds a sea captain--almost willing to leave to help her out. They set sail. And he sees more than a customer in the lovely young lass. But she's determined to keep on track, finding her father even though... Well. Don't want to spoil it. This is
a casual story in beginning only, that builds pace fast with worthy characters and heated twists and turns.

5.0 out of 5 stars exotic, exceptional and erotic Harlequin Historical...., November 1, 2007
This review is from: The Tiger's Bride (Harlequin Historical, No. 423, 10th Anniversary Promotion) (Paperback)
the book description on site fills in the story's premise, but I just wanted to add how much I enjoyed this book.

A Harlequin Historical-which can run the gamut from tepid to exceptional -this one would fall into the exceptional category. The hero and heroine are a delightful match-he's a cynical and dissolute English Lord-privateer, and she's a prim, on the shelf Missionary's daughter. Her father is quite a religious zealot since the death of his wife-sadly putting himself and his children into very dangerous predicaments. It is during one of his excursions that he comes up missing and his eldest daughter-alone with her two younger siblings in China, out of money and close to being made homeless in a foreign land, comes to the realization she must seek out known rogue James for help finding her father. There ensues a highly adventuresome, fun, and surprisingly sensual romance.

On that note-this romance has many more love scenes than most Harlequin Historicals-I did not find them offensive but I did want to let other readers know in case that is an issue with them.

I really enjoyed this book which was in turns funny, romantic, fast paced and dramatic-and would recommend it to any fan of Regency or Historical romance.
5 stars!
