Amazon.com Review

In deceptively simple language, Katrina Shields guides you through each step of social awareness and activism, from determining what changes need to take place and how you can effect them, to how to approach listeners with bad news that they may not want to hear, as well as how to avoid burnout. Shields's book is geared toward social activism, but also holds valuable truths for negotiators in business or any human transaction, such as how to create bridges between you and the opposition. How does one determine when an act, tradition, or unquestioned belief needs to be changed? The guide includes exercises that encourage discovery and growth, both for individuals and groups.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful book for organizational development for nonprofits, advocacy groups, and individual activists, April 14, 2006
This review is from: In the Tiger's Mouth: An Empowerment Guide for Social Action (Paperback)
Highly recommended. Filled with useful, helpful ideas and activities on planning, visioning, sustainability, avoiding burnout, and more. Also a great book for trainers. Lots of excercises and activities. I've never written an Amazon review before, but saw no one had reviewed this great book... so had to write something!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful resource for change agents, August 29, 2011
By
This is a very useful resource by an Australian activist and consultant, Katrina Shields. The book provides advice and exercises on addressing activist burnout, improving group dynamics, and defining one's vision and purpose. I often reference this book when I'm preparing a training or workshop for an advocacy group.
