5.0 out of 5 stars Great story of armored combat by the second greatest tank ace, October 25, 2010
This review is from: Tigers in the Mud (Hardcover)
I purchased the hard cover version of this book long before it came out in paper back. This is nicely produced version of Otto Carius' book. The large format and quality makes it worth the price. As the greatest tanker to survive World War II (and number two in terms of "kills"), it is a story worth reading. Otto Carius did not resemble the classic image of a warrior. He dminutive instature and yet, like many of th egreat warriors in history rose to the occasion inmany battles, primarily in the Army Group North Sector of the Eastern Front. He finished his career leading Jagdtiger on the Western Front fighting the Americans in the Ruhr Pocket. While Michael Wittman is generally more well known, Otto Carius' exploits lack nothing of his more publicized counterpart in the SS. Good pictures along with good text (clearly better editing than the general offerings by Schiffer). Highly recommended. I like the hard cover, but is it also readily available through Stackpole for a lot less.
