This review is from: Tigers Over China: The Aircraft of the A.V.G (EagleFiles, No. 4) (Paperback)
I bought this book a while ago as a reference for a model P-40 I was building. After I received this, I was pleasantly surprised that this book contained an artist rendition of my particular model. I loved how the author went into great detail about the various shark mouths. All in all I would recommend this for anyone who is looking for a reference of a specific aircraft in the A.V.G.. Here is my breakdown:
PROS: 1.) Lots of different aircraft are presented in this book. These are all artist renditions based off of photos and interviews. The few of the aircraft I have research all appear to be pretty accurate representations. 2.) Well organized and clear photographs (Please know that most of the references in this book are artist renditions.) 3.) Quality of this books is great, I feel it is very durable it is has withstood the wears and tears of my modeling desk quite well. CONS: 1.) Really my only "slight" annoyance was there wasn't a whole lot of written history. There are plenty of other sources for this, but if you are looking to buy this book for a full blown history you will be disappointed. I can't even dock it a star for this. You will be buying this book first and foremost as a reference for the various paint schemes the Tigers wore.

Great book for reference photos and paint schemes of the AVG Flying Tigers! There isn't much in the way of history in this book, but many pictures and captions that help with markings and colors for the modeler. One of my favorite facts about the P-40 B in this book, that I just learned, is the U.K. "roundels" circles in the camoflage scheme that weren't used since the Nationalist Chinese insignia was used.If you ever wanted to build an accurate P-40 model for the Flying Tigers, this book is one I recommend! |
