short but effective,

this is one of the best short histories i've read, on any subject. wonderfully absorbing, it acquaints the reader with a vietnam that is beautiful and beguiling. i'm pretty sure the only place to find this is a thoroughly stocked library.

Walter Sheldon's slender history of Vietnam is rich in legend, lore, and geography. It includes a good look at the first US delegation to that country in 1819, and leads into a fast-paced view of events that became the Vietnam War.
The final chapter sets the reader on the streets of a bustling Saigon--this 1969 book wil only enhance a reader's understandingof America's involvement, for better and for worse, in a terrible war. |
