Kids as young as my five month old daughter are drawn to tablet screens, and this product attempts to create a little more tactile interface that replicates how shape toys work in the non-virtual world.

Packed in the box are four shapes that have special capacitive "feet" on the bottom that interact with the touch screen on an iPad. A set of three apps are available for free in the Apple app store. One requires the child to match specific shapes, the other allows the child to 'stamp' shapes into a scene, and a third is an open-ended drawing application. Each has a special parents section which acts as a little curriculum guide to help ensure the maximum educational value out of the product.

The games are a bit simple but for younger kids this shouldn't be an issue. The pieces themselves are well constructed but their rubberized coating does attract some dirt. I also had some problems with the red square registering itself properly during use but I suspect that might be corrected in future software updates.

Tiggly's product isn't the only toy of this type. Fisher Price has a case/playcenter that also incorporates shape stamps like this. But I think the folks at Tiggly have better apps to accompany their product and your child might get a little more out of Tiggly's version.

I have a 3 year old (very soon to be 4 year old) daughter who LOVES these Tiggly Shapes and the iPad apps that go with them. She knows her shapes quite well, so the basic shape learning didn't keep her attention. But she loved the apps that created different animals and creatures out of multiple shapes. She sat down and played it for almost an hour straight when I first gave it to her and she probably would have kept going if I didn't have to stop her to get ready for bed! After several weeks of having them, she continues to enjoy playing with the shapes on the Tiggly apps, but has also really gotten to like playing within portions of the apps that do not require the shapes for playing. For instance, one of the apps lets you create little creatures out of various selections of eyes, noses, legs, etc. I'm sure smaller toddlers will enjoy this as well, and I was pleasantly surprised with how much my daughter enjoys this toy even though she is on the upper end of the target age range.

My 4-year old nephew loved playing with these, and his mom (my sister) felt great that it was not only keeping him occupied, but helping with his spatial skills too!

This purchase of Tiggly Shapes was my second purchase. I had originally purchased direct from the manufacturer as a gift for my 3 year old cousin. This particular purchase from amazon was as a gift for my 2 year old nephew. Both my cousin and nephew really like this toy. Using the shapes with the ipad is a great combination of technology with a hands-on toy. Both kids are able to use these in combination with the apps. It helps to have an adult sitting with them but the 3 year old is able to play with the shapes without any assistance. In fact, her mom was trying to show someone else how to work the toy and she had to ask her 3 year old to show them how it works! I would definitely recommend this product for kids who have access to an ipad.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
My 2-year old got a kick out of the Tiggle apps and figuring out the shapes. The apps are colorful and my daughter loved to repeat the animal sounds, etc. I found the apps were easy for my daughter to fool by using her hands in addition (or sometimes instead) of the supplied shapes. Also, the shapes can be used by themselves (slide them like a toddler would) to switch between apps, which is frustrating (or more interesting than the game) for a toddler. Overall, I think the apps are pretty good, but not amazingly polished. I will continue to play with them with my daughter, however. The shapes themselves are a soft-touch plastic with rubber feet on the bottom. They are not going to scratch your iPad at all.

Tips:

- Disable the iPad's 3- and 4-finger gestures to help your toddler not trigger app switching when playing with the shapes.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I had so many concerns when ordering this product. It is difficult to actually list all of my worries. So, let me just start raving about this product and then maybe I will inadvertently address all of your hesitations also. First, let's start with the soft, cloth, drawstring bag. Keep all your little shapes in here so that they never get lost and no one ever steps on them. Secondly, these shapes have a grippy coating (perfect for little hands still developing their dexterity), are thick/heavy (in that they are of actual substance and not "cheap"), and have little "feet" to prevent scratching, disperse the force of impact (if you have a little one who is less than gentle) and help with interaction between the object and the iPad.

As a result of that "grippy" material, these do become "dirty" quickly. I used a Method cleaner on them, but I fear that over time the "grippiness" wear off from cleaning. If this happens, I will update this review.

The applications are a little limited right now. For this price (for four little shapes and a bag), I would expect a bit more. Still, Tiggly Stamp and Tiggly Safari (apps) are a huge hit!

While I really enjoy the heartiness of these shapes, I do think the price is a bit steep for what the consumer receives. (This is probably not the result of this being "overpriced," but a reflection of the cost of production). Take all of this into consideration, and you will be happy with your purchase.
