5.0 out of 5 stars i can't wait
...for you to shut me up. I love MSI, but ppl are a bit insane trying to rob us for the neighborhood of $100+ for a CD. C'mon, if you don't want it, sell it reasonably and if you do want it but just wanting to brag, do that on myspace. Every MSI fan who reads this should VOTE this review as helpful for you sellers can see we do agree on this... and if Jimmy's reading...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Worth $5.00
I love MSI, but this album leans more towards rap music and has almost no electronic sounds in it! Actually, "Diabolical" is the best track on the album and appears to be the only perfect track on the album with it's use of electronica even though it's only 103 seconds long!

Keep in mind the album cover along with the track titles are meant to get attention,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Like nothing else., August 4, 2000

Mindless Self Indulgence are like nothing else on the planet. They have a truly original sound, perhaps due to lead singer Jimmy Urine's self-described hatred of musicians. It's really just a bunch of friends getting together and making some noise (none of them had ever played in a band before this), and doing some insane stuff during the live shows (the lead singer has set himself on fire countless times). If you want an idea (albiet a poor one) of what they sound like, try some kind of horrible mutant stepchild of Frank Zappa, Queen, Atari Teenage Riot (minus all politics), and Wesley Willis. Jimmy, the lead singer, sounds exactly what the record label, Uppity Cracker, would make you think: an over-excited skinny white boy jumping around. He goes through 5 or 6 different vocal\singing styles in the span of one minute (opera falsettos followed by vulgarity-adorned rap), the short little guitar hooks fly all over the place, and the absolutely insane trademark Mindless Self Indulgence drums complete the chaos.

"Apple Country" (one of the songs on the album) sounds like a bizarre commercial for a bed and breakfast shoved through 20 layers of crack-induced distortion.

It's like nothing you've ever heard. And that's a good thing.

...but not worth the insane amounts of money people are selling this for. I reccomend you pick up Frankenstein Girls May Seem Strangely Sexy as a first listen. And even still, just download this album. Anything more than 20 bucks a cd is overpriced. I love this band, but not "115-dollars-a-CD-love-this-band." < /rant >

MSI is a nerd-goth-techno-industrial punk band. A must-listen band if you like Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Dresden Dolls, Ministry, My Life w/ the Thrill Kill Cult, etc.

I like this CD more than "You'll Rebel To Anything" but not as much as "Frankenstein Girls..." This has the same atari sound effect melodys, frantic drum and equally frantic vocals, and most importantly: this CD is full of lyrical phenomenons that bridge the nerds with the goths.

5.0 out of 5 stars Free your mind, October 13, 2004
This review is from: Tight (Audio CD)
"Substance" is what you'd like to hear, because all the pop songs all contain the same crap. MSI mocks every other band's crap, and makes excellent music. Several of these songs are even parodies, like Grab the Mic, and Bite Your Rhymes (which even explains their method). Jimmy's voice alone is an instrument. If you're going to compare this album to everything else you've heard, you'll hate it. Don't be stupid.

MSI! Buckle your belts real "tight" because when MSI gets into your house, your pants will be around your ankles! This brutal onslaught of constantly changing beats, primitive electronica, thrashing guitar riffs, and bouncy flows will do for your ears what OJ did for his ex-wife. Sure to be the next big thing in the uncommercial music scene, MSI delivers an album that will make your church-going, conservative mother end every sentence she speaks with "niggazz". If you want a relationship, go buy a Moby album...if you want a three minute in-and-out with a rough, leather outfitted, slave driving midget- go buy Mindless Self Indulgence today!

5.0 out of 5 stars My God, Some More Of Some of The Greatest Music Ever Created, July 26, 2000

MSI amaze me. They are one of the best bands I have ever heard. Tight is one of the best CDs I have ever heard. I found out about em' thru my friend who played me a song from their new one (buy it its awesome, Faggot is one of my fav songs ever) and so I went online and all I could find was this. So I picked it up and it rocked like no other. Quirky guitar, thumping, talented bass, odd vocals, and the classic fast breakbeats. This album is awesome, you have to pick it up and give it a chance. I would give it more stars if I could. Coolest tracks: Bring The Pain, Tight, and Diabolical. Completely original, not a KoRn ripoff.

The album artwork makes me think of a shirt I saw on T-shirt Hell.com; "I swear, I didn't know she was 3!" Hehehe... so that's what is meant by tight. Anyways, Mindless Self Indulgence pwnz0rz j00! Nu-metal is garbage, but MSI is actually the shining diamond amongst all those boring chunks of coal. Sure the songs may only last 2 minutes a track, but y'know what? The Ramones songs were just as short and still comical and catchy.

Jimmy Urine has the greatest and most complicated sense of humor of any musician out there and despite what any of you "hay-tuhz" say, they are VERY talented. But MSI don't WANT to get popular and become corporate [...] or be on MTV. They want you to hate the holy hell out of them so they stay obscure and only something truly COOL people listen to.

MSI appeals to me for many reasons:

1: They're anti-homophobia.

2: They're anti-conservative christians.

3: They make fun... of THEMESELVES~!

4: 8-bit video game noise r0xx0rz my b0xx0rz.

5: They're crazy fast and make no damn sense at all which is absolutely PERFECT for a hyperactive ADHD kid like me. Urine and I probably even have the same ritilin dosage ^_^

6: "Be the first kid on your block to THROW THIS RECORD OUT!" Self-depricating humor appeals to self-loathing angsty teens such as myself. I only listen to Eminem to hear him make comments about his [...] being the size of a penut (see "The Kids") and because he's funny as hell.

7: The liner notes to F.G.W.S.S.S. "Listen to this album with your tongue planted firmly in your cheek. If you do not have a sense of irony, or you are a piece of [...] bigot, or a fundamentalist anything, return this album immediately. DON'T come to our shows, DON'T wear out t-shirts.. [...]

Nirvana did a similar thing when they asked that racists and homophobes not buy their merchandise, cd's, or come to their concerts. I like it when a band is so hell-bent on expressing their views that they're willing to risk massive mounts of money and a wide fanbase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank God For All These Rhymes, March 8, 2002
This review is from: Tight (Audio CD)
This cd may be hard to find, but once you find it anywhere, you should buy it right away, even if it [expensive]. I had heard this independent cd was being re-realeased, but after two years of rumors, it looks like it's not going to happen. So if you find this, grab it, scream with joy, and run. The lead singer Little Jimmy Urine has a great girly, whiny, and all out wonderful voice. This is one of the best cd's i have ever heard and i recommend it strongly. The drums are fast as hell, the guitar and bass are amazing, the voices and whines are better than any, and every song on this cd is good, these guys are not limp bizkit sellouts, they have their own unique kind of music. It is a blend of techno beats, fast rhymes, and a great sound that is unlike others and an undescribable miracle.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS "INDUSTRIAL JUNGLE PUSSY PUNK" OR SO THEY SAY, August 9, 2000
This review is from: Tight (Audio CD)
i first heard msi back in '93 on a sampler tape but never saw anything else about them until recently and i sure am glad i did because they create some of the strangest, funniest, most demented music outthere.albeit msi is not for everyone by a longshot but if you think you can swallow over 100bpm with vocals switching from high pitched screams to rapping and incoherant noises from little johnny urine all in about 10 seconds then this is for you.they do a really sick cover of bring the pain,an old method man song plus they put a live version of tornado also which is pretty twisted.the only thing wrong with this is that its only about 30 minutes but its hard to get tired of it.so run go get it.
