Like so many other bands that really rocked in the late 70's but released wimpy music as the 80's began (and, thus, were never as popular as they had been), Foghat decided to change its music style and sound with "Tight Shoes", and it was a big mistake.

After issuing what I think are their two best albums -- "Live" and "Stone Blue" in the late 70's, Foghat was at its peak of popularity. Instead of building on it by continuing its brand of loud and kick-butt blues-style rock, they went "new wave" with this one. "Tight Shoes" contains very bland songs, nothing bluesy, and the production is very weak...guitars sound nothing like the way they used to on previous albums.

I bought this album when it first came out, expecting more of what they'd released before, but was thoroughly disappointed. Don't waste your money buying this, nor should you buy any of their other albums from the 80's.

(Update: With Charlie Huhn and Bryan Bassett taking the place of Lonesome Dave and Rod Price, the current version of Foghat [2008] would make Dave and Rod proud...these guys kick butt playing Foghat's classic tunes live...go see them if you have the chance!!)

I have enjoyed Foghat all my life. When I was a kid every one had at least one copy of Foghat Live! and Fool For The City. But I never really thought much about them until Tight Shoes came out. The real Foghat fans HATED it! I thought that finally they'd put out a record that really bounced. I still like some of their earlier stuff, but if I'm gonna put on one Foghat disc it'll be Tight shoes. It's a little more pop than their previous output, but retains all of the blues-rock guitar groove that made the Foghat name in the first place. Unfortunately, the band's sound began evolving a bit late in the game and this record never got it's due. The old fans of the day didn't like it and nonfans didn't give it a chance. But I really dig it! The follow up Girls To Chat And Boys To Bounce was almost as good (and died just as quickly). I recommend them both.

I realize that this album is a departure from their signature style but that doesn't make this music any less awesome. This is my favorite of Foghat's work and perhaps my favorite album period. If I was to rank each of the 8 songs, I would give them all 5 stars. Lonesome Dave was incredible on vocals, and the guitar solos are simply brilliant--especially on "No Hard Feelings" which to me is Foghat's best song ever.

I was young and IN LOVE and playing a fool when this album came out. This album was different and was where FOGHAT's music was heading.Their sound was changing, somewhat better. DAVE liked NEW WAVE, it reminded him of rockabilly. This albumsongs like "BABY CAN I CHANGE YOUR MIND" my fav.and "NO HARD FEELINGS" make it worthwhile. GET IT! You"ll like it.
