5.0 out of 5 stars Soulful UK r&b at its best
I've been a mad fan of Loose Ends forever but I got this album solely for the David Morales remix of "Love's Got Me". Morales was the man to go to in those days if you wanted a banging club version of your song, and he worked on songs by an endless number of people - either alone or with Frankie Knuckles - and I'm talking about people like Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson,...

This Album is very interesting. For the die hard fans it has a few tracks but it re-works some tracks to bring new dimensions to some of the older tracks. Look out for Choose me and Gonna make you mine, they are real gems and guru's appearance on A little spice. "Give me a sunset evening in Central London, a convertible car, some open road and "A little...

I've been a mad fan of Loose Ends forever but I got this album solely for the David Morales remix of "Love's Got Me". Morales was the man to go to in those days if you wanted a banging club version of your song, and he worked on songs by an endless number of people - either alone or with Frankie Knuckles - and I'm talking about people like Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Chaka Khan, Diana Ross, The Brand New Heavies, Inner City and of course, Loose Ends, just to name a few.

The original version of "Love's Got Me" (from the album Look How Long) with plaintive lead vocals by Carl McIntosh wasn't bad but Morales added a tight hip-hop drumbeat, a solid bass line, a sax & guitar solo and transformed it into a club smash. It's one of my favourite tunes ever and I've had it on (a very much treasured) 12" single since the day it came out back in 1990. It's so good to now have it on CD.

Luckily for me though, there's much more on offer here even if one has the original Loose End CDs; including the original mixes of "Hangin' On A String" and "Don't Be A Fool" (neither of which need any remixing in my opinion) and cool remixes of "Magic Touch" (by Eon Irving), "Gonna Make You Mine" (by Dancin' Danny D & Godwin Logie) and a particularly jazzy hip-hop mix of "A Little Spice" (by DJ Premier & Guru). I was shocked however, at the glaring omission of "Stay A Little While, Child". The original version would've sat nicely alongside the other original versions on here and there was even a dub mix that was equally interesting. I suppose one can't have it all.

Pick this up and enjoy some of the best soulful r&b the UK has ever produced.

U.K.'s finest, Loose Ends, is offered through this well compiled remix collection. This is fitting for those who are truly fans of an innovative act that help put British Soul of the 80s in a frenzy.

5.0 out of 5 stars The way R&B music should be, December 4, 2001
This review is from: Tighten Up Vol. 1 (Remixes) (Audio CD)
Despite my being of African descent, I have always had a huge problem with American R&B I find that too much of it just sounds the same, and really is boring. I just can't get down to it. I find British R&B much more enjoyable, and Loose Ends is one of the best groups of the genre. Jane Eugene was a real chanteuse and makes todays so called R&B "Divas" sound like yowling cats.

This is a remix of their hits and it is really well done and I find that I love to listen to it over and over, without getting bored. My favorite tracks are: Don't Be A Fool,OOH You Make Me Feel (a remix), Choose Me (a remix),Slow Down (a remix), Hangin On a String (orignal Remix).

This is a great CD, If only todays R&B artists would take a page from Loose Ends then I would have much more apprectiation for the genre.

Get this and quick. Probably the best introduction for the not so soul hearted.

This album features some of the classic Loose Ends dancefloor fillers including some very faithful remixes. It's about time volume two was made and released.

5.0 out of 5 stars sound quality is great!, September 17, 2010

i'm not a big fan of remixes when the song sounds completely diffirent. every now and then a remix is perfect, the original version and the remix. i mainly bought this cd for "gonna make you mine" and "don't be a fool" i already have all of their original cd's.
overall this cd is worth the money whether you're a loose ends fan or not.

I like "Hangin on a String" as it's the original version. The rest of the disc I rate as "passable." Three stars...

3.0 out of 5 stars Maybe I was expecting too much..., February 21, 2006

This CD is just OK. Maybe I was expecting too much. The 'Slow Down' remix is cool. Nothing else really jumps out at you. It's like if this was playing in the background while you were shopping, you might not notice.

Well I really was looking forward to the CD..I couldnt wait..When I saw it on the internet, I jumped on it...When the mail arrived, I slapped it right into my CD player..Well to no evail, I was disappointed....It was to much hype and not enough of the original Loose Ends sound...To much remixing or maybe not the right remix touch....Oh well, I'll listen to it because they one of my favorites in there era...
