Although they have appropriated the picture from the original Design LP (Tijuana Christmas), this MP3 download version has added in a chorus of singers that were never on the original album. This transforms the original -- and very good -- album from being reminiscent of The Tijuana Brass to being somewhat like The Ray Conniff Singers. (I'm being charitable; I don't think the singers on these MP3s are as good as the Ray Conniff Singers.)

It's not necessarily a bad album; I do like Ray Conniff's Christmas album as well as the Tijuana Brass' Christmas album, so they could have done worse. But for anyone who may be looking to replace their old Tijuana Christmas LP, these MP3s are a severe disappointment, and they should not have used the same cover picture--it's very misleading.

Note also that there are 4 songs here that were not on the LP, and two songs that were on the LP are not part of the MP3 album.

This is a classic Christmas album. I have been listening to this album for more years than I care to remember. Everytime I listen to the album it reminds me of my childhood Christmas memories. I loved it so much growing up that I started listening to many different genres of music, something I continue to do today. I just wish it would be released as a CD so I could listen to it in the car, but until then I will drag it out every Christmas and listen to it as I decorate for the holidays.

We grew up on this album, but an earlier version which was only instrumental. This version adds in a bunch of cheery, chipper, Welk-show-style singers on most of the songs. They don't really improve the songs, in my opinion, but I'm biased by nostalgia.

This is NOT Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, as the name might make you think. It's some knock-off band, but I think they're pretty good. The music is all traditional American Christmas songs performed with a Mexican flavor.

I picked this one up for a laugh. I mean, c'mon, Design Records? The masters of cash-in and cheapo productions? But it turns out that this is a very nicely produced album, well played and well recorded. Even the pressing quality is above the usual Design standard.

The "Border Brass" do not cover any of the TJB's arrangements, but they manage to evoke the TJB sound very well when they want to, even including a Wechter-like marimba. A surprising addition is the harpsichord, but it works. It's sort of like having Lurch from the Addams Family (the TV show) sit in with the TJB.

So, I'm very happy with this pleasant little surprise, and it's going to reside in my collection of Christmas music from now on.

This was a great find that had great significance, but probably only to me. My wife got me a USB turntable for Christmas so I could scan some of my old albums to MP3. When I pulled this album out there was another album inside. I hadn't touched this album in at least 35 years! I was shocked when I found a new one in great condition on Amazon. I paid a great price and had this album in a few days. Now I can't wait for Christmas to play it again!
