Its all about hard work,
By
This review is from: Tiki Barber's Pure Hard Workout: Stop Wasting Time and Start Building Real Strength and Muscle (Hardcover)
I heard Tiki on the radio and eventually bought the book. Tiki's football career got a tremendous boost from the workout program put together by Joe Carini, a power lifter from New Jersey. Joe runs the "House of Iron" gym. He also shrugs 1,400 lbs, no kidding.
Don't expect anything fancy here. There is no space-age equipment, none of those silly bouncy workout balls that are all the rage at other gyms. Carini stresses intense workouts and lots of iron. To give you an idea, I visited Carini's gym to discuss his methods. He told me that once I got used to the program I could vary it some. For example I could put chains on the bar for bench press. Chains on the bar? for variety? Are you kidding me? When I met Carini he was training an NFL defensive lineman. What I found surprising was that neither Tiki nor the lineman looked huge. It turns out that using the system you can develop great strength without looking like the Hulk. The book has good pictures and suggested workouts but it needed a better editor. Joe and Tiki each essentially tell the same story about how Tiki succeeded with the system. Its worth the price though. The relative simplicity of the system will show you that the real key to getting strong is hard work.

Worst money I have ever spent...power lifting book that has photos of tiki curling 20lb dumbbells...nothing innovative...save your money. It was very disappointing. Threw it away actually. Joe supposedly got tiki and ladanian tomlinson insanely strong...didn't share any secrets here. Garbage.

Progressive Weight Resistance Is The Only Way To Fly,

This review is from: Tiki Barber's Pure Hard Workout: Stop Wasting Time and Start Building Real Strength and Muscle (Hardcover)
Whenever I pick up any book that has to do with progressive weight resistance using barbells and dumbbells, I take note. You are of course pulled in by the cover by Tiki's very virile and charismatic pose on the front cover. Once inside, I enjoyed the emphasis on strength training, however, I saw it a little lacking for the female gender who might want to consider the system.
I enjoyed the book though I would have liked to see a little more detail on diet health and nutrition. Given the choice between the Richard Simmons and Tiki Barber approach...well, I think you can guess which I'd chose. Good book.
