Book Description

2005
A gripping tale that brings to life the meaning of freedom and patriotism and how the now little-appreciated Great War engulfed the lives of young Americans. A valuable addition to LDS literature.

More About the Author

Jerry Borrowman is a best selling author of historical fiction and co-authored biography. His Three Against Hitler with Rudi Wobbe is a National Award Winner with the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge for promoting the cause of freedom. Jerry has given voice to true heroes -- Rudi Wobbe, a German boy who stood up against the Third Reich, Joe Banks in A Distant Prayer who served on 49 combat missions deep into German territory in a B-17 bomber, only to be shot down and taken prisoner of war, and Colonel Bernard Fisher, USAF, a career Air Force pilot who was awarded the Medal of Honor for Valor Above and Beyond the Call of Duty in Vietnam, (sometimes mistakenly identified as the Congressional Medal of Honor).

But for those who enjoy historical fiction, his World War I and World War II series provides insight into the great European wars of the 20th Century in a unique and exciting way.

Here's what Jennie Hansen, reviewer for Meridian magazine has to say: "Borrowman does a superb job of portraying life, including the values and prejudices of the early twentieth century. He brings a realism to that period that is slower and more innocent than teens experience today, yet the reader is led to an awareness of and learns to care about the hopes and dreams of these soon-to-be-men, who live in a time when automobiles are still new and airplanes are little more than toys..."

Jerry's books are for readers of all ages, men and women. They will inspire you by the great sacrifices made by those who have fought for American freedom.

5.0 out of 5 stars The story of two young friends, Danny O'Brian and Trevor Richards, August 7, 2005
This review is from: Til the Boys Come Home: A World War I Novel (Hardcover)
A riveting novel set in the battlefields of World War I, 'Till The Boys Come Home is the story of two young friends, Danny O'Brian and Trevor Richards. With America's involvement in the European conflict, the two boys find themselves far from their families in Pocatello, Idaho. Danny is fighting in the infamous trenches against a determined German opposition. Trevor is battling the enemy in the skies over France. The debut historical novel of author Jerry Borrowman, 'Till The Boys Come Home recreates what war was like in the battlelines of the ground and the combats of the sky during the first war to bring such horrors as poison gas, machines guns, tanks, and rapid fire artillery to bear. The characters are superbly drawn, the attention to historical detail is impressive, and the storyline is totally engaging from beginning to end. 'Till The Boys Come Home is enthusiastically recommended reading and would prove a popular addition to any community library General Fiction collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Moving Story from World War 1, October 4, 2005
This review is from: Til the Boys Come Home: A World War I Novel (Hardcover)
Jerry Borrowman's recent novel, 'Til the Boys Come Home, offers a great account of the first World War. Taking two boys from different lifestyles and juxtaposing their lifestyles makes the war become more of a reality. Danny, the lower class boy, goes to fight in the trenches and struggles to accept his role in the war and in life. In contrast, his friend Trevor seems to be more confident with his upper class upbringing, and unlike Danny, he is in the air, flying planes. As the war plays out these two young men discover what it truly means to sacrifice, learn and grow. This novel offers a moving account of the first World War which is assisted by the strains of historical facts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Notch, March 2, 2011
This review is from: Til the Boys Come Home: A World War I Novel (Hardcover)
This is a great story set in a thrilling and deadly time. It is told from a faith based point of view so it is different from many similar accounts. Often we are told about the rougher sort who seem to be well fitted for war. This is about genteel people who would rather not fight but do so because it is necessary. Whether your own beliefs coincide with the characters faith or not you can empathize with these people who prefer harmony to conflict. It's an uplifting story about honor, sacrifice, commitment and integrity rather than the more commonly depicted brutish violence that degrades. Like real life, it isn't all happily ever after. You may laugh and you may cry but you will certainly be enriched. This book is worth your time.
