Product Description

Where dirty blues and beats collide: Meet ZZ Ward, a singer/songwriter whose artistry spins on a luminous axis of voice and soul. Raised on the blues with a passion for hip-hop, ZZ Ward s music straddles two distinct genres which she fearlessly melds with effortless nesse. Who knew turntables and harmonicas were so compatible.
Til the Casket Drops features collaborations with Grammy Award winner Ryan Tedder and Michael Fitzpatrick (Fitz & The Tantrums), Kendrick Lamar, Freddie Gibbs, Ali Shaheed Muhammed (A Tribe Called Quest) and Pete Rock.

Throaty chanteuse fronts deep-soul fierceness. --Entertainment Weekly

Whether her bluesy belting is accompanied by hip-hop beats or, as here, (Last Love Song) a gently plucked acoustic guitar, the palpable heartbreak in her voice will raise goose bumps down your spine. --Marie Claire

Biography

ZZ Ward is someone you haven’t heard before.
Hold up, let’s amend that: With early praise from Esquire (“damn near NSFW”) and Marie Claire (“will raise goose bumps down your spine”)—not to mention buzz-building appearances at South by Southwest and on Last Call with Carson Daly—this bold new voice may indeed have captured your attention ... Great bluesy voice and style.

I like every song on this album which is surprising because I think that has only ever happened to me one time.

Incredible voice, gripping rhythms, clever instrumentation. Absolutely wonderful, a truly smoky album.

If you liked her EP, you'll also like the album. The magic is still there. One of the best new artists right now.

Bluesy and soulful, would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Watch out pop diva's, there's a new one in town and she's hipper and cooler than you. ZZ Ward blows the competition away on her debut album. Solidifying that she is here to stay. I'm loving the infectious jams of Put The Gun Down and Move Like You Stole it and can't deny the whimsical romanticism on Last Love Song. Heavy rotation all day every day. Purchase if you like Adele, Amy Winehouse or music in general.

Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart was at the heart of the music movement in the 1970's. He had a knack for discovering talent that was different from what was out there in the music scene. Among his discoveries were Donna Summer, Parliament and KISS- to name a few. After the dissolution of the label, he started another label named Boardwalk Records. His biggest discovery at the label was the former member of The Runaways Joan Jett. The success of the label would be short lived, as Bogart would succumb to cancer two years after founding Boardwalk. Carrying on tradition- as well as the label's name- is his son Evan "Kidd" Bogart. A pop songwriter, he wrote songs for the likes of Big Time Rush, Sean Kingston and Britney Spears. His discovery is the Arlington, Pennsylvania singer Zsuzsanna Eva Ward- or simply, ZZ Ward. She released the EP "Criminal" before releasing her major label debut "Til The Casket Drops" in Fall 2012.

Her album was produced mostly by former Dr. Dre session musician Theron "Neff-U" Feemster and the production team Blended Babies. Although she's been compared to British singer Adele, Ward really sounds like a more accessible KT Tunstall. Her album starts off with the title track "Til The Casket Drops", a song about staying by her lover's side even during the rough times. On the bluesy first single "Put The Gun Down", Ward confronts the other woman responsible for taking off with her man. She's falls helplessly in love on "Blue Eyes Blind", while loving a man to accept her who she is on "Home". Rapper Kendrick Lamar guests on the song "Cryin' Wolf", where she deals with an inebriated boyfriend who's out on a drunken stupor.

Love this CD - good deep lyrics, rocking R&B - she has it going on...really - I'm a bit jaded takes a lot for me to get excited about these days in the music industry - See her live now while she's still playing small venues - within a couple years she will be a big star - just a manner of time - I would have given this a 5 stars if Cinnamon Sticks was on it instead of 365 Days and Save My Life - I find them to commercial and not worthy of her talent - She's going to be around a long time - best new musician in my view - walked out of her live show stunned hadn't felt that way since I saw Stevie Ray Vaughn on his national tour back in day - just hope the younger generation gets hip to her style - for me she was a breath of fresh air, I know what my nieces are getting for Christmas...LOL

This Woman is great!!! She is amazing live!! I just caught her at Newby's in Memphis with Star and Micey (also a fabulous band. The best live band I've ever seen! They put on a hell of a show!!) and she is great!! Her band blew my mind and her vocals sound even better live. She's not over produced, she's an amazing talent and I can't wait for her next album. BUY THIS ALBUM! Go see her live if possible and while you're at it, catch star and micey. DO IT!

I first heard ZZ Ward in Put the Gun Down. It was kind of catchy. Then, later, I finally listened to the entire album. I liked it so much, I bought the whole thing, even though I'd already bought the one. Great bluesy voice and style.

Give ZZ Ward a try - I've listened to the album multiple times and will continue to do so. The balance of great vocals and rhythm on this album is fantastic. I can't wait to see future work by this artist.

I first heard this song on the A&E reality show Rodeo Girls. ZZ Ward is great and so is this song. Her voice sounds like Adele. Like one person said in their review ZZ sounds like Adele on steroids. So true. I am a big fan of Adele and I am now a fan of ZZ Ward's music. I bought this song from Amazon's MP3 store and had it downloaded to my computer. If you like Adele listen to ZZ's song Put the gun down. You can listen to this song at Amazon's MP3 store or listen to the opening song on A&E's reality show Rodeo Girls to get an idea of what the song sounds like. Sandra K
