4.0 out of 5 stars Better than Pots and Shots?, January 26, 2002
This review is from: Til I Die (Audio CD)
...Maybe. If not, it's still a really solid album. Following their tradition, the first song (Potshot is Coming) is a catchy intro track. "Be Alive" and "My Way" follow beautifully. Both are catchy, though a bit heavier than previous Potshot (Maybe that's because the 'new' Potshot has entirely new members, save for Ryoji.) That brings us to Ryoji: His vocals aren't any more coherent than they were. Still, the lyrics are, to paraphrase another review, simple but good. Just about every song on here is a direct hit, except Track Eight. "Tell Me Why" is a veritable screamfest. "Let's turn up our amps and go nuts!" Fortunately, halfway through, it unpredictably becomes trad ska trumpet and trombone solos. It sounds like, at the end, Chucky and Michy switch instruments. A barrel of laughs. After a bunch of really awesome songs, (like the short and sweet "It's Real,") Potshot treats us to some awesome live songs. "Every Dawn" is one of the coolest live songs I've ever heard. "Mexico," unfortunately, misses the mark of the original. It's well done, but missing the trombone solo. Oh well. All seriousness aside, this is well worth the fifteen or so bucks you'll be shelling out.

5.0 out of 5 stars simply amazing...., October 13, 2001

This review is from: Til I Die (Audio CD)
considering that POTSHOT is my favorite band, of course id love this album. this is my favorite out of the three US-released cds. most people simply brush them off as being a good ska band, but with not understandable lyrics...well, obviously they didnt look at the lyrics. the lead singer RYOJI just has an accent. i think this adds a lot of character..and once again, if you look at the lyrics, youll see another great side of potshot-simple, yet meaningful lyrics. this album is my favorite because it has more of a "harder" sound to it.
good for ska and/or punk fans.
great for anyone who wants to get addicted...

4.0 out of 5 stars Nevermind the lyrics, this is solid Ska Punk, November 1, 2000
This review is from: Til I Die (Audio CD)
The aspect of Potshot that has turned some people off are their lyrics and singing style. The lyrics are very very simple ("oh" and "ah" are used a lot) and they are basically not understandable through the singers accent. But when you look past that, Potshot is a very entertaining japanese skapunk band in the same vein as Less Than Jake and Kemuri. There's a lot of catchy tunes and great horn parts, and even one hardcore song. If you liked their past albums, you'll like this. The highlight of this album is the two bonus live tracks from their last album, "Rock and Roll". You really realize how much energy this band has live. I really hope they tour the US soon. Also, theres a secret track which is an acoustic version of the song "Freedom" which Potshot fans will appreciate.
