4.0 out of 5 stars Don't lose it in the shuffle
Alas, the whole "emo" scene (whatever that means now) finally IS blowing up, as critics have long predicted, and a whole crop of bands are in prime position to capitalize. Noise Ratchet's debut full length could easily be written off as yet another pointless emo release, but upon further inspection, the band executes their sound with near perfection and peppers...

3.0 out of 5 stars Little Bit of a Letdown
Granted, my opinion seems to go againgst the flow, but this album disappointed me. Personally, I discovered Noise Ratchet for myself on MP3.com about 3 years ago. They had a five-song EP called "Why We Cry" that was available only at MP3.com. I ordered it, and loved it so much that when I lost the first copy I ordered another one. When I found this CD in a...

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't lose it in the shuffle, July 21, 2002
This review is from: Till We Have Faces (Audio CD)
Alas, the whole "emo" scene (whatever that means now) finally IS blowing up, as critics have long predicted, and a whole crop of bands are in prime position to capitalize. Noise Ratchet's debut full length could easily be written off as yet another pointless emo release, but upon further inspection, the band executes their sound with near perfection and peppers it with rock sensibilities sorely missing from newcomers such as Taking Back Sunday or Finch. The first three tracks are oddly enough the weakest ones, sounding like any other soft hearted punk band on the planet, but from the moment "For You I'll Be Forgetting Me" kicks in, rock and roll excellence ensues. Guitars soar and glide seamlessly, carrying the weight of triumphant emo anthems. It's nothing that hasn't been done before, but for those of us that still have an ear for the sounds of Jimmy Eat World and Further Seems Forever, Noise Ratchet serves up a debut that pushes all the right buttons. Excellent spiritual lyrics further show the amount of depth this band has over their counterparts.

4.0 out of 5 stars good album, May 7, 2002

Noise Ratchet may not be breaking new ground in this watered down alt/indie/emo genre, but they sure do it well. They have good vocals mostly sung but occasionally the powerful scream, typical layered guitar work, and songs with rock and melody. I can say there are honestly no songs on here that I need to forward through. Each one is solid, no throwaways. Recommended to fans of "Static Prevails" era JimmyEatWorld and that whole style. Again, nothing new, but definitely very good at what they do. If you are craving something new within this style of music, don't pass these guys up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well deserving of 5+ stars, April 2, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Till We Have Faces (Audio CD)
This is the most solid album i've heard since Lagwagon's Hoss. Every song on this CD is incredible, with provoking lyrics, thick guitars and one of the most talented drummers to come across this genre (he'll pour down an onslaught of lightning-fast fills)...the chemistry between vocals + drums is magic - giving the songs a definitely surreal quality. Joel's voice is also insane- see tracks like Disappear, the train, and Till we have faces (holding out a high note for about 15 seconds- this song is sure to become an emo anthem-one of the craziest). Every song has such a strong melody yet they are all so distinct in their structure.
Check this band out live...they'll be out on the east coast soon, it's probably the most incredible show ever...there is no reason that they shouldn't go "big" on their musical merit alone...no overproduced hype here.

This cd is one of the best cds I have ever listened to. Unlike many cds that build a cd around one good single, every song on this album is incredible. I recommend this cd to anyone regardless your style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Band Ever, May 7, 2003

These guys in my opinion are one of if not the best band of current times, Christian or Secular. Not only did they do a great job putting this cd together, but they deliver it live. I've seen them almost everytime that they have come to my neck of the woods(Phoenix), and they haven't disappointed my yet(I've seen them like 12 or 13 times). And everytime I listen to the cd I just imagine them rockin' out on stage.

5.0 out of 5 stars What an EMOtional ride!!!!, July 9, 2002
By
Robert G. Grogan (Lewisville, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Till We Have Faces (Audio CD)
I have been following Noise Ratchet since late 1999 and had been eagerly anticipating this release. From "Permanent Solution" all the way through "A way to the Heart" this album takes you on a emotional rollercoaster that gets funner each time you listen. "For you I'll be forgetting me" melts into "Disappear" and keeps you moving right on through to "End" and the title track "Till we have Faces". '...identity abides in what we claim is the truth...' that song just haunts me every time I listen to it. Fantastic lyrics coupled with hard-beating music and Joel Hosler's soothing voice. Unbelievable. This album has become my personal favorite from the moment I first popped it in my CD player. Why We Cry was an unbelievable LP but this album solidifies my fanaticism for this young band. I can't wait to watch these guys explode onto the music scene. Ready or not, here they come!

I am ready!

5.0 out of 5 stars You'd be a fool not to buy this, May 23, 2002

With all this new emo that has been spawning up in the mainstream market, Noise Ratchet puts out some of it's best work in this album which can definitely give bands such as Jimmy Eat World a run for their money. Their brand of melodic emo rock showcases the phenomenal talent of this San Diego based quintet. If you're looking for some good rock, "Till We Have Faces" is great start to wean you into the new "emo" craze. Buy it. NOW. Word.
