5.0 out of 5 stars Jackie Greene is a musician's musician.
Love the new record.

He has great talent, based on his wide array of covers he has proven he is a great student of the classics, anyone who stumbles upon one of his live shows can't help be come away impressed. 3.0 out of 5 stars Losing the Edge...
I am having difficulty with this compilation. Songs feel so mainstream for the most part. Maybe it is just that I have seen Jackie perform at least 6 times with his band; and many, many times with other groups. I was expecting something more roots like, maybe with more edge. I do prefer his earlier works Gone Wanderin' and American Myth especially. Maybe the songs...

5.0 out of 5 stars Jackie Greene is a musician's musician., July 1, 2010

Love the new record.

He has great talent, based on his wide array of covers he has proven he is a great student of the classics, anyone who stumbles upon one of his live shows can't help be come away impressed. He has a great look and stage presence. He has grown up and has matured as a performer. You can tell he is building a craft. His lyrics harken back to the Stones, Neil Young, The Band and yes, Bob Dylan and further back to "the blues". He can tell a story and draw a character with his words. When he performs live he brings more than the sound from the record (cd . . . sorry), he experiments with his catalog of songs and plays them differently. Tell Me Mama, Tell Me Right, I have seen/heard him sing many different ways and they all work. Oh yeah, he also has assembled a superb band. Nathan Dale, Jeromy P (sorry don't know how to spell his last name) and Uncle Bruce Spencer. They all gel together well. The are "the California sound".

So, why don't we hear him on the radio? I guess it is partly because he doesn't fit in a merchadising box, he isn't fabricated, Hollywood or American Idol. We don't hear him on the radio because the radio is mainstream media . . . disc jockies who pose as "in the know" about new, relevant music should be ashamed of themselves.

If you are a Jackie Greene fan add to the this discussion maybe we can help JGe sell a few more records and get his ranking up on Amazon. If you have never listened to him give him a try, I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Finally, I would be remiss if I did not mention that any tie-dyed in the wool Deadhead should embrace Jackie Greene. Phil Lesh has all but passed the mantle to the young man. I think Jerry Garcia would love him musically, mystically...wholy.

Peace out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, June 29, 2010
This review is from: Till The Light Comes (Audio CD)
I've been a huge fan of Jackie for a long time. I saw him one year in San Fran, and have been in love ever since.

This record is defiantly one of favorites, and I have them all!

Check out Shaky Ground and Medicine! He really is a breath of fresh air in this turbo pop world!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely recommend this!!!, June 29, 2010
This review is from: Till The Light Comes (Audio CD)
I am over the top crazy about this new Jackie Greene cd. It's lush and full and sensitive and yet it still ROCKS. If you haven't discovered Jackie's music yet, you are missing a huge link in todays evolution of music. He's a storyteller with a great edge. My personal favorite is Stranger in the Sand. But there is not one throw-away track on the entire cd. Hear it for yourselves. Take a listen and I'm sure you will be as hooked as I am.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great, July 9, 2010

This review is from: Till The Light Comes (Audio CD)
Let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of Jackie Greene. He has played some of the best live music I have ever seen, as a solo act and with the Phil Lesh and Friends Grateful Dead iteration. He has played some Grateful Dead better than I have seen the Dead play the same songs, much better. I also am a fan of Jackie's own music, my favorite songs being "Honey, I Been Thinking About You", "Uphill Mountain", "Gone Wanderin'" and "By the Side of the Road, Dressed to Kill".

I had great expectations for this new album, and, as is often the case, when expectations are very high, they are very hard to meet/exceed--as in this case. I would consider it a good album, but not one that makes me want to continue to play it, unlike my own JG mix, which I play all the time.

Any Jackie Greene fan should definitely purchase it to support him, but to see the best of Jackie, go to a live show when you get the opportunity.

Maybe the songs will work better for me when performed live; I have seen him perform some of these through webcast and acoustic where I enjoyed them more. For what it is worth I really dig Jackie as a performer and songwriter, and really appreciate so many of his tunes. Maybe I need to stop listening to live music.... I recommend that you purchase this to support Jackie as an artist; and maybe comment on what you think on his Facebook page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than 'Ghost', June 30, 2010
This review is from: Till The Light Comes (Audio CD)
'Light' is a much more mature rock work compared to his last effort ( which was actually pretty darn good ) - Greene has really developed his own voice and the production and songwriting on the new one is absolutely first class...really digging this

Til the Light Comes by Jackie Green is just alright. It has a much softer sound than any of his earlier albums, which are all fantastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Till The Light Comes - Jackie Greene, November 5, 2010
By
In 2004 during a Saturday afternoon Blues program at the Monterey (CA) Jazz Festival (Only the Blues is played on Saturday afternoons)... a new act opened up for the three set Saturday afternoon and it was this kid Jackie Greene sitting on stage behind a piano playing songs from his "Sweet Somewhere Bound" CD like 'Cell Block #9' and Seven sisters... I was blown away by his talent then and so I started following JGe. Moving forward to 2010 I now live in the Midwest, Chicagoland to be exact and I now own five JGe CD's including his latest 'Till The Light Comes which is an example of an evolving musician, Jackie Greene. To start with Jackie is a perfectionist on stage and in the studio, as he blends the multiple sound tracks for some great song "intro's" and with great harmony across bass, drums and guitar. His attention to detail is not missed on a music lover's ear and his voice blends well with the sounds of his band. Jackie's new CD is an adventurous path from 'American Myth' and 'Giving Up the Ghost' and it combines some of the sounds of 'Gone Wandering' (early Jackie) with a recent song 'Shaken' (Giving up the Ghost). A couple of months ago when I bought the Till The Light Comes CD I did not like all of it right away as I did some of his earlier CD's. Yes I liked his almost angry tone in 'Medicine' and 'Shaky Ground' but it took a couple of listens to "HEAR" Jackie's sound in the balance of the CD. The great part of JGe is that things change when when you can combine what you hear with what you see in person, as I just did at his recent gig at the 'Double Door' here in Chi-town. Jackie breathes life and soul into his original songs and at the Double Door I saw yet another in person demonstration of his great guitar playing (he also plays well with Warren Haynes of Mule). Jackie is an original talent which makes him a must see and he is continuing to developing to get better. In the future I hope to see him included in a small circle of what we all recognize as the group of gifted great musicians.... he is in his way!
