This review is from: Tillamook Light : A True Narrative of Oregon's Tillamook Rock Lighthouse (Paperback)
A rare jewel of a book. James A.Gibbs creates a mood and a spirit that goes far beyond the simple history of a lighthouse. The author's firsthand experience of actually living and working at Tillamook Light gives the book a powerful and touching edge. Tillamook Lighthouse "Terrible Tilly" was one of the most fierce and inhospitable places in America and it produced a rare breed of men that were full of courage and unusual determination. A great adventure book for late night reading and a must for any lighthouse enthusiast.

Tillamook Light,
This review is from: Tillamook Light : A True Narrative of Oregon's Tillamook Rock Lighthouse (Paperback)
Tillamook "Tilly" Light was a joy to read! We laughed ourselves silly about Jim's "Culinary mishaps", seagull "bombings", adventure with a whale, and thoroughly enjoyed the whole book. What the men went through to build this much needed light station was indeed a feat in itself! Also, what caused Mr. Gibbs to be stationed out there, was also a lesson in keeping one's mouth shut even though he was correct in his views. The "superior officer" didn't think so as Mr Gibbs was disciplined accordingly. The book isn't long, so sit back and enjoy a good story with a lot of history. We've seen Tilly from a distance at Ecola State Park on Oregon's upper north coast. Knowing about her from this book makes her all the more appealing!
