5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent. A deeply moving story
The book will change you - you won't get away with simply reading it and moving on. Peretti's skills are unusual, and I believe will probably be reckoned so for some time to come.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not at all what I expected
I came to this book looking for something I might offer to people going through this particular turmoil, and was disappointed. I read the many reviews of the solace to be found here, and frankly don't see it. While the character found release, I think a more realistic reaction might be a greater sense of pain. I applaud the effort to approach a subject many steer away...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent. A deeply moving story, January 8, 1999

The book will change you - you won't get away with simply reading it and moving on. Peretti's skills are unusual, and I believe will probably be reckoned so for some time to come.

The story is about a woman coming to terms with an incident in her life from the past - doubtlessly repeated in many peoples lives, and one might be tempted to view the book as a somewhat polarised account of such a life. But this isn't true for this novel. The story stops way short of allowing such petty evaluations, and in a remarkable series of episodes shows a glimpse of heaven itself, and the depth of God's love in such a way that the mere issue of abortion is transcended altogether in a illustration of the vastness and glory of God, and of the tremendous significance of his love directed towards men, women, and children.

I should warn any potential readers that the book will almost certainly move you to tears regardless of your circumstances; the depiction of heaven is quite astonishing and will probably stay with you for some time.

Not only is the issue of abortion touched on, but many aress close to the problems of pain and the death of children are addressed. The answers it gives are remarkable and satisfying...

This book is not so much about abortion, as about the compassion and wisdom of God. This definitely deserves reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Novella of Grace, November 4, 2001
By
Eric Wilson "novelist" (Nashville, TN United States) - See all my reviews
(TOP 100 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Tilly (Paperback)
A novel? To be more accurate, this a novella that requires no more than 75 minutes to read. 75 minutes that could bring hope and reconciliation. Turn off that sitcom and enjoy a worthy story.

Peretti, with ease and grace, relates the story of Dan and Kathy. This couple has teenage kids, years of marriage, but something dark has come between them. Kathy confines herself to her bed, burdened by secrets that threaten her soul and her family. As the story unfolds, we discover the truth about the graveyard pictured on the front cover--and Kathy discovers the truth of God's love and forgiveness, despite her shortcomings.

Other reviews have attacked Peretti's theological approach to abortion here, but this is not a theological book about abortion. It's a book about grace. About the light of Jesus in the midst of dark sin. According to the Bible, it's "His kindness that leads us to repentance."

This short tale should be read by young teens (as a warning) and adults (as a ray of hope). Although its brevity avoids some of the deeper issues involved here, "Tilly" gives us a much needed reminder of "the peace that surpasses all understanding."

5.0 out of 5 stars better for mature readers, August 2, 2000
This review is from: Tilly (Paperback)
I first read this book when I was about 9 years old after hearing about it church. I loved the story then, even though looking back on it now, I don't think I completely understood it. I reread the book when I turned 20 when it was given to me as a birthday gift, and cried through the whole thing. It meant so much more to me now that I understood more, and had actually had close friends go through the painful process of of aborting their unborn children. Some people may say that it is "too pro-life" or that it puts women who have choosen abortion in a bad light. In my opinion, it does just the opposite. It shows the loving forgiveness of a God who truly cares for His people. Even though the woman in the story sinned by taking the life of her child, she is forgiven and loved and freed from the horrible guilt caused by her decision. It serves as a reminder of His true deep love and compassion for the human race

This book should be read by anyone that is experiencing the lost of a loved one or has had an abortion. The author puts you right there with the characters as the plot unfolds. You are there and learn through the eyes of the main characters how much God loves you and wants tocare for you! The audio casette was given to me by my friends husband right after my friends death. It was the single most thing, tool, to help me through the grieving process . I would highly recommend the novel & audio book to anyone that is hurting. It should be a tool that everyone has on their shelf! Donna

5.0 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed this book and will definitely pass it on., January 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Tilly (Paperback)
This was a really neat book. Gives a special view of abortion. There is no way that I would let my children read it until the were much older.( The recommended age group for this book is 9-12 years old.) Truly, I thought that was a misprint. This material takes a certain amount of maturity to understand. I myself am 31 years old and I cried through an awful lot of it. Overall, it was great reading from a great author. I will definitely continue to read and recommend Mr. Peretti's word.

5.0 out of 5 stars God Forgives, April 4, 2006
By
This review is from: Tilly (Paperback)
This is a very short book that you can read in an afternoon or evening. I dare anyone to read this book without crying. I haven't cried much in my life but I did when I read Tilly. Whether you believe in Heaven or not, the picture is painted so clearly of how God might treat those children in Heaven who were unwanted here on earth.
Many in our society ask "Why should we put the needs of our children before our own?" God asks, "Why not?" Who could forsee the pain and the heartache to be faced? Mr. Peretti gives us a glimpse, but also a glimpse of the forgiveness that only a loving God can give.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Tilly" changed my life., September 6, 2005
By
This review is from: Tilly (Paperback)
This book, if nothing else, scared some sense into me. My adoptive mother handed it to me when I was young, pre-high school, and needless to say, the powerful words Peretti uses to invoke powerful feelings in the reader have stayed with me for well over a decade. Despite being a Christian author, Peretti touches on a subject that touches all of us, no matter what our spirituality. This book took me less than two hours to read, and even at a tender teen age, I was crying for the emotions it invoked within me. I was brought up to believe that I was almost aborted. This powerful book helped me to understand that every action has a consequence and that life is precious.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't pass this one up!, February 21, 2005
This review is from: Tilly (Paperback)
I heard about the book, Tilly, through my mother who listened to the audiodrama. I wanted to read it for myself.
I borrowed it from a library and read it in less than a day. It is the most moving book I've ever read.
The story is about a woman dealing with the sorrow and regret of an abortion. In reality, many women, young and old, that have had an abortion, go through this "post-abortion depression".
Frank Peretti makes you feel these women's sorrow and pain. When you feel like you can't take it anymore, he introduces Jesus' amazing grace and love. Peretti depicts a forgiveness that everyone needs and wants.
This book will help men understand what women go through as a result of an abortion, allow women, that have had an abortion,to receive the forgiveness of Jesus, and warn young teenagers of the consequences of both pre-marital sex and abortion to cover or hide it. As for me, I've read it twice, and now I'm reading it for a third time. It's a beautiful story!
