Editorial Reviews

Debut album from acclaimed actor and activist Tim Robbins and the Rogues Gallery Band. Robbins has long written songs and performed in small venues, but has kept it under the radar...until now. Joining forces with his friend, the legendary producer Hal Willner, Tim Robbins And The Rogues Gallery Band is a nine track collection of raggle taggle and rousing gypsy Americana, where each song is a story told with passion and raw emotional honesty.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Surprise July 18, 2011
By Scamp
Format:MP3 Music
I got this to check it out, and really liked it! Tim Robbins has a great Americana feel and some serious songwriting skills. My initial favorite songs are "Book of Josie" and "You're MY Dare" - but as I listen, more stand out. Well worth a try!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely July 18, 2011
Format:MP3 Music
At first, I was a non-believer. Yet another actor turned musician. But giving it a listen, i'm absolutely impressed with the musicianship on this record. It's storytelling in song at it's best and I look forward to seeing this band live. I recommend everyone give it a try. Don't pre-judge like I did. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another movie star turned songsmith August 31, 2011
Format:Audio CD
By Jim Clark, publisher, Lee County Courier, Tupelo, MS

I'm always sceptical when I hear a movie star has taken a shot at singing. Most like, Eddie Murphy, should never quit their day job. A few, like Russell Crowe, have the chops.
Tim Robbins (probably best known for Shawshank Redemption) has taken the risk and stepped up to the microphone.
His voice is an aquired taste, a hushed Leonard Cohen. His lyrics are patterned after his musical heroes Dylan, Springsteen and Tom Waits. If you like Cohen and Waits you'll probably like Tim Robbins & the Rogues Gallery Band, if you don't you probably won't.
He wrote the first song on the CD 27 years ago, when he found himself dumped by a woman and broke.
"It was late night drunken passion; my first heartbreak,"'Tim said.
He hails from a musical family, both his parents met as members of the UCLA'marching band. His father, Gilbert Robbins, would later form a 60's protest folk band The Highwaymen.
It's the storytelling that makes the CD worthwhile, deep dark glimpses into a troubled star's life.
"I feel like I've been heading towards this all my life," Tim said.
