Customer Reviews

Okay...so, explain what happened.
Mr. Math Expert
It seemed as if the film company didn't have rights to use a lot photos or video of Tim as there were actors pretending to be Tim playing football.

Lives just as he preaches -no phony attitude about him.

Tim Tebow is a fascinating guy for lots of reasons-- his personality, his life story, his career thus far, the media hype-- and this documentary tries to cover it all, from his birth in the Philippines in 1987 to the trade to the Jets in March 2012. It consists mainly of the following:

1) Interviews with several sports reporters who've followed his career, as well as a few high school teammates, and the athletic director and assistant coach from his high school.
2) A bit of footage from high school and college games (I liked the clip of him running for a touchdown on a broken leg in high school!)
3) Voice-over narration.
4) Visual filler. There's no NFL footage and not much footage of Tebow in general, so instead we see an anonymous football player dressed in vague approximations of Tebow's uniforms, who runs around a field with a football striking Tebow-esqe poses. There are also a few still photographs of Tebow that pop up again and again, with pans and zooms and photoshopped backgrounds of heavenly-looking clouds to add some interest. Some of it's unintentionally funny. Definitely low production values, but it gives you something to look at while listening to the voice-over.

The story of Tebow's life as presented here didn't tell me anything I didn't already know, didn't offer any new insight, and rushed at every stage. Example: when we get to Tim's breakout 2011 season with the Denver Broncos, we skip from the Miami Dolphins game (his first big comeback) to the playoffs against the Steelers, without really covering the six-win streak and all the excitement in between. It's a broad but shallow introduction to Tebow.

I appreciated Rachel Gray's review of this video as it pretty much sums it up nicely and reflects most of how I felt. In terms of my contribution to critiquing this video, I suppose the over-riding thought as I watched it was, "What was the point of making this?" Mainly, I wondered why it was made at probably the most uncertain point of his NFL career, that being just after his trade to the New York Jets. I think that a documentary should only be made about an athlete after he has retired after an exceptional career and/or reached the high point, in this case a Super Bowl championship.

I was going to conclude that it was made solely for the $ame rea$on other Tebow production$ are being made the$e day$. However, I realized that it was more likely made to inspire younger people to aspire to more noble things in life, like good character, hard work, and commitment instead of going after money and things or, conversely, expecting life to be handed to you on a silver platter.

Like other reviewers, I was also bothered by the lack of interviews with Tim and his close friends and family, instead putting up with the same handful of commentators telling their stories; I was wondering when they were going to interview the janitor at Gator or Mile High stadium. There was also no actual video footage of the NFL portion of his career but rather NFL photos being moved around the screen to simulate motion. So from a production standpoint, this video deserves 2 starts at best.

However, I give 4 stars with respect to its honesty, how - to my surprise - this video didn't really put him on much of a pedestal with regard to his play as a quarterback.

"Tim Tebow: On a Mission" is a really well put together documentary on the man Tim Tebow. It's the story of his rise to the NFL, from his humble beginnings as a high school player to his missionary work and everything in between that made him the star player he is today. His former coaches and teammates share memories and their thoughts on Tim and what lies ahead for him in the NFL. This documentary paints Tebow a very bright future with the Jets, as long as he takes advantage of it and pushes himself to the limit. This film shows that in Tebow, all things are possible.

This film truly touched me. Tim Tebow is very inspirational and sends a good message to everyone on how to adapt to new journeys. Tim Tebow: On a Mission shows that he has been criticized for his faith, but he never falters from it. He has always been a great leader and this film goes into more detail on how many lives Tim Tebow has touched through his leadership. Even if you're not a fan of him after watching this film you'll at least respect him. I can't wait to own a copy!

Look, I applaud ANYONE who takes the time to produce a positive piece on Tim Tebow. If anyone deserves it, Tim does. That being said, I'm disappointed that this was rather lackluster, contained no new information and, most importantly, had no interviews from major players in Tim's life like Urban Meyer, his parents, former NFL teammates and/or coaches, or even Tim's agent (Jimmy Sexton).

Regardless, like millions of Tim's fans, I am rooting for Tim to get that one more chance to prove he deserves to be in the NFL as a starting quarterback. I have to believe that somewhere out there is a coach...or a GM...or a team owner that sees what everyone seemingly can't see --- that Tim Tebow can be an NFL championship quarterback if given the right chance, in the right circumstances, with a team built around his unique skill-set that sets the team up to win. Go Tebow!
