Review

[A] delightful, compact but comprehensive guide to the queen of vines. The marriage of great photos and crisply worded, tightly edited entries, covering all the key species and cultivars, makes this a keeper. ... [One of] the 10 best books of the year. -- Steve Whysall Winnipeg Free Press 20061217 Every photograph is outstanding. -- Diane M. Calabrese American Reference Books Annual 20070101 I had sworn to myself that I wasn't going to bother with clematis, but as a result of this book, I have a 'short' list of of a dozen-plus to try. -- Jim Dronenburg Washington Gardener 20070301 The famous Timber Press Pocket Guides are always first-rate and this particular one does not disappoint. ... It must have been a daunting task, indeed, to condense the selection of Clematis, but what a success! -- Linny Heagy Journal of the Botanical Research Institute of Texas 20071001

This book is excellent. The size is good, the cover is laminated. Has a great number of celmatis varieties. A must have! I've looked at the Clematis Encyclopedia also written by Toomey but I chose this one and am glad I did. Out of my 55 varieties that I have only 12 were not listed in the book, most likely because they are 'sports' of listed varieties. If you are interested in Clematis, this is a must have book.

Format: Paperback
This book is an invaluable tool for referencing all sorts of clematis information including bloom time, best siting, pruning, growth habits & hardiness, and the pictures give a realistic look at bloom appearance. The size of the book is perfect for taking along to the nursery to look up clematis varieties that are not yet familiar to me. It is not an in-depth scientific study of the genus, but it is truly a wonderful go-to guide for anyone interested in clematis.

This is one of the best book on Clematis that I have read so far. The one mystery of Clematis is what pruning class is my Clematis is in? This book helps you solve the mystery so that you prune your Clematis correctly for the best flowering results.
