Finally got my 2nd pair of these. Had my first pair for about 3+ years of heavy use. When it came time to replace I wanted to try a higher end boot. Got a pair of Merrils and had problems with the fit of the right boot, then they started to rub the top of my toes, again, in the right boot. Was frustrated and decided to go with "tried and true" and ordered my 2nd pair of these. So with HEAVY use I can say...

Pros:
-fit right out of the box, don't really need to break them in
-waterproofing held up and still is on my original pair, I'm impressed
-they're very light weight and VERY comfortable
-they look good
-they're great on downhills (not all hiking boots are)
-not too badly priced; especially if you get them on sale

Cons:
-The traction isn't as aggressive as I'd like
-the tread wears a little quick and since there wasn't an aggressive tread to begin with it seems they wore down too soon. I continue to wear my old pair for dirty jobs as work boots and they're fine but on slick surfaces or muddy slopes they got a little to slick a little too soon
-the laces that come with these boots won't stay tied for anything; plan on replacing them immediately
-The insoles are cheap; I used the originals for the life of my first pair but bought new insoles for my 2nd pair and it almost transforms the boot in a good way. I LOVE my 2nd pair a 100% more with the new insoles.
-They eyelets have never broken on mine as others have reported but they are a bit sharp so they wear thinner laces (the kind I prefer) rather quickly.
-You can really feel rocks through the sole; these are better for smoother trails; for really rocky terrain they're a bit thin.

When I wear out my 2nd pair I'll try again to find my "ultimate" hikers but frankly for the money you'd be hard pressed to get much better than these. I know I listed quite a few cons but don't shy away; just get them on sale and buy some better insoles and you'll have a great boot. The fact that my 1st pair are still waterproof after such heavy use is really impressive to me and the old pair are still more than serviceable.

I was forced by a situation beyond my control to immediately need a new pair of hiking boots only a week before leaving for a week of hiking in the rainforests of Costa Rica. I live in the woods - literally an hour from the nearest traffic light, so I had nowhere to shop. I wasn't sure ordering these boots online was going to be a satisfactory solution, but figured I could always send them back. Judging from the positive reviews I hoped they would fit right out of the box - and they did fit "like a glove"! They were totally comfortable right out of the box. I wore them to work for a few days to figure out how much moleskin I would need to bring along for the blisters - but they were totally comfortable. No blisters, and they provide excellent traction as well as support. They also breathe well and don't get damp and hot inside, even after a day's wear. I wore them 8 to 12 hours a day and they felt like a familiar old broken-in pair of boots I had been wearing for a long time. I am very pleased with this product and can wholeheartedly recommend them.

I travel a lot and these are easy to take with me... Light enough for travel but sturdy enough for light/medium hikes. I love 'm! ( they are a little smaller then my other Timberland Boots -Alpine trail- so think about ordering a half size larger...)

I have owned and loved Timberlands since 1994. My last pair was the White Ledge. These appeared to be basically the same boot but with Gore Tex. I loved the white ledges so much that I thought these would be a great upgrade with the Gore Tex lining. Since the outsole is the same and similar lacing. However, there is one design difference and it is a bad one. The the leather of the toe box and the leather strips that the lacing bolts run through, they meet and overlap at the top of the toe box. Since they overlap, it is not as flexible as the surrounding leather, and when you step forward, the extra firm leather digs straight down crushing my toes. I am hoping after more hikes and unfortunately more suffering, they may break in. This is unfortunate and downgrades an otherwise exceptional boot. I wish I would have stayed with the white ledge instead.

This hiking boot is very comfortable! The vibram sole is soft enough to give one sure footing on ice and snow. I wore them for several hours with a pair of wool hiking socks in 15 degree temps in the snow, and my feet stayed dry the entire time--clearly a waterproof boot. Light weight, great fitting and an overall outstanding boot!

I bought the first pair of these boots in the grey for my hubby, and from the first day he wore them, he would not change and wear another pair of shoes. I told him he was going to wear them out very quickly, and he said they were so comfortable that he wished he had them in other colors. I ordered a second pair in the only other color I found them in(brown). Although my hubby likes to dress up, and has many dress shoes, he will not stop wearing these Timberlands, and doesn't stop commenting on how comfortable they are. He has now become a walk-about and can't stop; sleet, rain, snow or sun! The price at Amazon was much lower than they are sold for locally, and the shipment was super fast. This is a wonderful, well made comfortable pair of boots, and the two colors I bought for him blends in well with many shades ... wish they had even more colors. I highly recommend these boots to anyone looking for a very well made, very comfortable, fashionable pair of waterproof hiking boots. Now all his buddies want to buy the same ones.
P.S. They are all 60+ :~{!!!

My husband loves these because he has to work outside, sometimes in wet mud. He always stays dry and says they are very comfortable.

I bought these at the end of August. Three to four times a week I've worn them for 5 mile hikes in the mountains west of Denver. After only three months of use, the rubber toe cap on the right boot is separating from the leather -- and Amazon says the "return window" ended a month after I bought them. So I'm out the money and have a pair of boots that are falling apart. Don't make the mistake I did.

I bought this shoes for my trip to South America (Argentina, Chile and Peru) a week before my flight. I was concerned that I've made a mistake for not giving them a try before. But after one week of walking and walking I was prooved wrong. They are very lightweight and fits like those shoes you will not get rid of because they feel just right, just perfect. Keeps you feet very dry. Great product, every cent worth.

I bought these shoes a year ago. And I love them.
This is the most comfortable shoes I've ever had.
So far, I can not believe I did not freeze with them in the winter, at a temperature of -30 F (minus, no errors).
They are much warmer than my previous WINTER boots. 20-minute walk in the very cold weather and my feet are still warm. This is the best proof of the quality of their construction - they are excellent at keeping you warm inside without insulation. At the same time, in the offseason feet always stay dry.

I live in Tomsk, Siberia, and my review will not be equally useful for all, but does allow you to evaluate the quality of these shoes, shown in extreme conditions.
