I've been a fan of the Euro Hiker for many years. In fact they had been my choice of shoe for many travels throughout the world. Unfortunately recently Timberland has changed the design of the shoe....for the worse. The old pair I'm wearing right now have a bellows tongue which serves to keep scree, gravel, and such from easily getting into the boot. Timberland has recently decided to remove that feature so now hiking/walking down any lose packed trail will result in rocks in your shoes. Its a shame...the Euro Hike used to be an awesome boot.

I was deeply disappointed to discover they had done away with the tongue gusset, as you say, which so compromises the wearability of the boot. The tongue is also narrower than before which REALLY begs for a bellows gusset. Upon first discovering this absent gusset I wrote the company's counterfeit department and sent them the new boots, made in Viet Nam, unlike my old beloved 15 year old pair (with the gusset) made in China, suspecting they were now being made improperly, only to discover it was indeed a design change! I would steer away anyone from trying this new poorly constructed boot which used to be so wonderful. Now rocks, grit water and cold air can easily get into the boot, the tongue slides side to side... Stupid fools at Timberland!!!

The reviews are in, great boots but they changed the tongue for whatever reason and they are not the same. This is my fourth pair of these over the past 12 years, so I love the boots, but sad to say this will be my last. The tongue of the boot does not have the flap that connects it to the main body of the boot which kept rocks and dirt out. You would think it was not such a big deal, but my one star says otherwise. Change the boot back, and stars will align!
Disappointed.

I am a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. These boots are simply excellent. They are truly waterproof and i have had ample opportunity to find out. They are extremely comfortable and lightweight. They are rugged, too. Buy these with confidence!!!

Timberland boots fit my feet. I've had 3-4 different models in the past. I have had a pair of the original Euro Hikers for 7-8 years now and I love them. They are comfortable, they have a gusseted tongue to keep the dirt and water out, and they have held up well through a lot of miles. However, I've worn them so much the inside liner is starting to deteriorate and the lugs on the soles are worn down. I liked them so much I ordered a replacement pair. The Euro Hiker boot has been redesigned and the new model does not compare to the original boot. The tongue on the new design is not gusseted which can allow water, sand and rocks to creep into the shoe. The tongue of the new design is overstuffed to the point it's really puffy/bulky and get's in the way. The new design has a thick construction seam on the inside part of the boot, below the ankle which rubs against my ankle making them a bit painful to wear unless they are tied loose, which of course makes them useless for actual hiking and terrain use. I've tried to wear them for a couple of months now but keep going back to my old boots. Maybe I'll eventually get past the seam thing but still, I think the new boot design is a mistake on Timberland's part. Sadly, I will not be ordering this model in the future.

I got the shoes for my husband a few days before Christmas and he loves them! They arrived on time. He's a not the pretty boy type, so these are perfect because he scratches them and it comes right off with a wipe of his hand. You have to buy a half size bigger though, which I figured and they fit him perfectly.

If you want nice shoes without having to worry about getting them too dirty, go with these.

It has been about 10 years since I owned a pair of these shoes. The shoes I remember were very comfortable and lasted a long time. These look good and look to be made of durable material but I'm very disapointed with this purchase. They are super stiff, I have been wearing them for about 3 weeks trying to see if they will get broke in and stop hurting my feet. I have never had any shoes hurt my feet like this. I am about ready to give up and just take a loss. This will be the last pair of timberlands I ever buy.

The change in the tongue design is disappointing but overall I still like these boots. While it seems Timberland decided to change the tongue design to make these boots more like a sneaker I can live with the slightly reduced functionality. I use these boots primarily for walking outdoors and have appreciated the extra water resistance offered by the old tongue design in my last two pairs of these same boots but I rarely need to walk through deep standing water. It sure was nice to have the added protection when I did though!

Excellent quality leather boot. Great fit, comfortable from the first day. I always go back to this style as I can rely on it never changing. Love the fact that it is waterproof.

Excellent and comfortable boot! I've been wearing Timberland boots and shoes for the last 24 - 25 years and can say with confidence that for the money nobody can compete with them in quality and longevity. I've had pairs last me 10 - 15 years of extreme abuse; some of it in the harsh winters of Massachusetts and equally harsh summers of Florida. And even upon getting rid of those well-worn pairs they still were intact and wearable! How many other manufacturers can say the same? These particular Euro Hikers are surprisingly lightweight and very supportive, particularly at the arches where one needs it most. I'm looking forward to years of service from these Euros.
