Who's ever seen another foldable zipper-closed shoe? Seriously. These shoes are awesome.

PROS (huge pros because I am very picky):

    1) Folds in half and zips closed, with a hook for attaching to a backpack. The fabric is protected from dirt when traveling which keeps the shoes clean.

    2) Super lightweight fabric upper. Nylon is durable and very comfortable. Doesn't breath as well as cotton or mesh, but is the next best choice.

    3) No traditional laces! Uses "quick laces" - much lighter and easier to use. Love em.

    4) Flat footbed. Awesome! It's so hard for me to find a shoe that isn't angled or shaped. Most shoes have raised heels and "arch support" which, in my opinion, experience as a healthcare professional and research, causes posture imbalances leading to foot pain, pronation/supination, low back pain, knee and hip pain, etc. Over 99% of shoes I will not wear for this very reason. I have spent years and thousands of dollars learning about posture and mobility, even lectured about it. The modern style of shoes are so harmful for our bodies. Post a comment below if you want to know more. I can recommend books.

    CONS (but not really):

    1) Weigh 9 oz per shoe or a little over 1 lb for the pair. This is about 15-25% lighter than most shoes, but am used to 'barefoot style' shoes that weigh 5-7 oz for the pair. So these are a bit heavier than what I like on my feet. (I'm a minimalist, Zen-style yogi health nut type.) But for most people, these shoes will be lightweight or average. It's the density of the rubber that adds the weight; the fabric is super light.

    2) Tab on the zipper rubs the ground... but not if you flip the tab up.

A great idea for trips when you only want to take one pair of shoes. As a camp shoe, these are perfect. I've used them for their intended design - around a fire as my hiking boots dry. Just rugged enough for a short firewood search or a walk from the lodge down to the lake beach. They also make great canoe/boot shoes, since they dry fast and have good grip.

They're serviceable for business travel - perfect for a jaunt down to the hotel pool or fitness center, (or bar, or breakfast buffet) without having to wear the same shoes you wore to the meeting. A bit more acceptable then flip-flops, and since they fold, a bit more packable.

They're not light and flimsy - you could design them lighter and make their packed size smaller, but these seem the perfect balance between ruggedness, comfyness and portability.

    Two cons however -

    1. If you're going to use these outdoors, be aware that the zipper creates an area perfect for collecting and hiding seeds and maybe bugs and makes this shoe a carrier for possible invasive species in or out of susceptible areas. You should clean these thoroughly and throw these in the washing machine before and after outdoor trips. Some destinations have inspections for these kinds of things in the airport (many islands and some countries like New Zealand) and would seize a dirty pair of these shoes.

    2. The zipper tab jingles a little, so, these aren't for ninjas.

From what little competition I have seen, the product is uniquely useful and efficient in solving a common footwear problem: Having something light, compact, durable, comfortable, and with sufficient coverage, as backup shoes, and as something to wear when the heavier stuff is airing out. I have no reservation in recommending this product to meet this type of need. I am happy to own two pairs. Also, fortunately, with the flexibility given its light materials, and the adaptable means of fastening, these are very comfortable for wide feet as presumably they are for medium sizes.

My markdown to four stars has to do with one particular design complaint. The clam-shell zipper is very clever for packing, and works conveniently to hold a spare pair of socks in each shoe. However, I really doubt this is a proper way to put them away for long-term storage. It is just logical (and intuitive) that the stresses of folding a sole so radically are not good for very long. It would have been so simple for the design, with a different choice of zippers, to maintain this feature; but, also, to allow the shoes to be stacked top-to-top and to be enclosed with the same basic zipper concept, taking away the stress of a folded sole. I realize that I can simply lay the shoes flat, unattached, but it bugs me that that risks separation and loss as part of the gear. So clever a product as far as it goes, but the final result falls a little bit short of what it obviously could have been.

I had these shoes on a 150-mile section hike I did on the Appalachian Trail recently, and I was very happy with them for a limited time. They were comfortable, lightweight, and I loved how they folded up so easily. However, my happiness was short lived. After only two weeks, one of the straps with which I had used a carbeiner to attach to the outside of my pack (just like I saw in one of their own ads) broke. When I looked at the remaining shoe, I noticed that strap on that one was rather frayed. Great shoe: cheap strap!
