Perfect commute boots for winter!,
By Jules (New York, New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Timberland Women's Fauna Tall Boot (Apparel)
I bought these boots this year as commuter boots since I live in NYC and need warm, comfortable boots that don't look like moutaineering boots. I love these boots. I have worn them every day since I purchased them. Some of the reviews have mentioned the boots being narrow and tight around the ankles and calves; its not true for me. I am a 5'8 woman with normal measurements and bought the size 10 and the boots are fine. I have worn them with all my jean tucked in and no tightness, and I wore them with double socks for New Year's Eve and it was fine. The boots actually have an elastic band in the insert of the shaft and allows for room to grow. The boots are true to size and are really warm and comfortable. So if you want them purchase them and with assurance that they will fit just the way you want them to be! I love them.

i love this boot. i had a pair of timberlands i bought a few years ago in brown (and a different style) and i loved them, and they have held up VERY well. I just wanted a black pair for other outfits. they are super warm and very comfy. the shaft of the boot fits perfectly however i do see where some people are saying the shoe part is a bit snug. it's not snug widthwise or lengthwise for that matter, but from the top of your foot down. of course the suede will stretch and i got them recently so i haven't had time to break them in yet. but if you are really bothered about it, the footbed is removable so you could replace it with a thinner insole if you like. the shearling lines the entire inside of this shoe which was a big part of why i chose this brand. i was a bit nervous about having a zip up boot because i was concerned about water seeping in through the zipper teeth. nope. there is a leather strip to reinforce the weatherproofing and to keep you from pinching your legs. and the zipper is very sturdy...so i am not worried about it breaking. also, these shoes come with a waterproof sealant on them so no need to wait for a spray. all in all, another great product by timberland. :)

A very beautiful boot, very warm. Normally I ware a size 6½ shoe, but buying a boot for winter I'll get the next size larger to allow a heavy sock for additional warm if needed. In this instance I bought a 7, I should have gotten a 7½. The calf of this boot is ample, it's the foot of this boot it's snug, it's smaller to size. I kept my size 7 for suede will stretch but I may never get a heavy sock under it, outside of this I`m very happy with this warm and what I believe well made boot, also to preserve the suede I`ve sprayed it w/a suede and leather water proofing and conditioning product.

Warm and comfy boots - zipper isn't so great,
This review is from: Timberland Women's Fauna Tall Boot (Apparel)
I bought these boots two years ago, and they have been wonderful. Super warm through lots of Chicago commutes, and my most comfortable pair of winter shoes. For me, they ran true to size and I'd agree that the calf might be on the narrow side. But, I have small calves so it works out really well.
The other great thing about these boots is that after two years of wear, they still look really good. I use a waterproofing spray every year to prevent staining, and haven't had any problems. However, recently the zippers have started to wear where the boot naturally wrinkles at the ankle. Now I can't zip one boot down past the ankle or else it gets stuck. I'm going to try to have them repaired, because they really have a lot of life left in them, and I'd hate to replace them because of a zipper. I'd recommend these boots, but I wish that Timberland would use zippers that hold up as long as their boots do.

I love, love, love these boots! I always have a hard time buying boots because I have big feet and large calves. These boots lace up in the back so even with big calves, you can make enough room to tuck your pants in on those knee-high snow days. They're even easy to clean (just brush away the gunk).
I will say that they are lined with sherpa-like lining, but don't expect them to keep your feet warm like Uggs, it's a thin lining which is probably why they don't look as clunky as uggs. I bought half a size bigger because of other reviews and I'm glad I did - that way you can wear thicker socks on those really cold days.

These boots were okay...,

After drooling over these boots for a season or two, I broke down and bought them in January 2009. I'm usually size 7.5-8 and purchased a 7.5; I should have gotten an 8. They fit uncomfortably snug the first few wears but eventually I could don them without pain. I wore them to Sundance Film Festival and throughout Chicago's harsh winter and found them to keep my feet warm 70% of the time. I would lose feeling in my toes and could feel the coldness of the pavement or snow creep up through the sole when outside for a period of time. In October 2009, the back laces to one boot broke and I had to buy a new set. Not a big deal; just surprising and inconvenient. The next month, the zipper to one boot broke. I took it to a a repair shop who refused to fix it because, "Honestly, it's not worth the money. It will cost at least $50 to fix. Just buy a new pair of boots." Before I tossed the boots, I took out the insole and noted that they were pretty much flattened after about 6 months of wear (it stays cold in Chicago late and comes early!). I enjoyed these boots but alas, they didn't last. I will not buy them again.

I absolutely love this boot, I am looking to get it in black as well. It's super comfy and stylish and most importantly it's waterproof and holds up extremely well in the winter months. It's also nice and warm. Also great for big calves. Haven't seen a better boot out there yet. Timberland really went all out on this one.

I have been looking for the perfect boots i.e. waterproof, sturdy, not look too bad, warm. These boots fit all these categories but are not all that comfortable. I had to go to a 7.5 even though I am normally a 6.5 at most. The size thus runs pretty small, and while I am not a particularly big person, it is snug around the calves, but adjustable with the laces. However, laces do tend to come undone...Overall, it is a very good and well-made boot, but not for every foot, and definitely will need breaking in.

Sytlish comfortable and warm. Fits true to size. Feels sturdy yet comfortable.
Pros: comfort--can wear all day with no problems, stylish, sizing is true Cons: perhaps a little too warm, depending on where you live... |
