I wanted a wallet to hold nothing more than IDs, cash, credit cards, and the one Bandaid I always carry.
Steven Howell "Steve" | Fit: As expected
Fit and finish are excellent and I suspect the ballistic nylon is stronger than leather.
P.K. Frary "Gochugogi" | Fit: As expected
It has a strap to hold it shut when not in a pocket, and this works great while out golfing.

About Timbuk2
Timbuk2 has been especially influential in popularizing the messenger bag as an urban fashion accessory. Founded in 1989 by a San Francisco bicycle messenger with an old sewing machine, Timbuk2's goal was to make a messenger bag rugged enough for real bicycle messengers, yet stylish enough to appeal to a broader market of young, hip urbanites as an alternative to the traditional two-strap day pack. Our catchy name, three-panel design, distinctive swirl logo, and the fact that their products are made In San Francisco has added to Timbuk2's cachet.

Our unwavering passion for designing and manufacturing functional, rugged, stylish bags has made Timbuk2 popular among the authentic bicycle messenger bag brands. Today, our three-panel, tri-color design is an icon on the streets of San Francisco, and a common sight in many other cities worldwide.

The Bifold was a hot ticket in 2 5; pangs of nostalgia made us bring it back. It's slim profile was designed with your behind in mind and we constructed it out of a new tough ballistic nylon. So stuff your cash and go sit on you're a** because this wallet is durable! But throw your change in a fountain and make a wish cuz this baby don't carry coins.

I already owned a nice Mont Blanc leather wallet but decided I wanted a new, fun wallet to use. For classier duties, I could always go back to the black leather wallet. The Timbuk2 bifold caught my eye because I'm a big fan of their messenger bags and laptop cases. For the most part, the Timbuk2 Bifold Wallet met my expectations and needs, for about 2 months.

First, I found the dimensions to be appropriate (W-4.13 x H-3.74 x D-0.39). It's a little shorter, but wider than my leather wallet. The Timbuk2's dimensions made more sense to me since most back pockets are typically wide and sometimes short. It fit in my Lucky Brand jeans just fine. The ballistic nylon material feels sturdy enough to take some abuse. "Super-durable ballistic nylon and a slim design so you won't look like you've got a giant a**."

Unfortunately, there are only 4 card slots, which is surprising given that it's actually wider than my leather wallet which has 6 card slots AND 2 side slots. One of the card slots is an ID slot for your driver's license or school ID. I was at least able to put 2 cards in each slot. Also, the slots are deep so you won't be able to eyeball what's in them like you can with some wallets where you can see the top edge to identify them. The main billfold has a divider so you can separate your bills or keep receipts on one side and bills on the other.

The last design note worth mentioning is the stretchy band. At first I really didn't think I would use it or want to. But the wallet won't completely shut, even empty, unless you strap it with the band. This may be cumbersome to some people, but it didn't bother me. It is probably the least durable part of the wallet though, so it may fray or wear over time.

This is a handsome wallet with an outdoorsy and sporty vibe. It's more attractive and tougher than wallets of similar material from Tumi and Swiss Army. Plus, it has surprising body and firmness, holding its shape better than most wallets. Fit and finish are excellent and I suspect the ballistic nylon is stronger than leather. I was worried it might be bulky, but size is average for a full size bifold. I wasn't fond of the elastic band--always in the way--but it was easy to remove with an exacto blade.

Storage falls short compared to typical leather bifolds: 3 card slots, 1 ID window and a subdivided bill section. A wallet for light packers. Card slots were initially tight but loosened after a few days of use. However, slots are deep and the card "disappears" inside. Seep slots are more secure but fussy to pull cards when you're in a hurry. The bill section divider is great for separating benjamins from the georges! Best of all, this is a wallet you can hose down and scrub with a toothbrush if it gets dirty! Typical excellent Timbuk2 quality and a good deal, especially if on closeout.

I like to avoid leather when possible. This is considerably stiffer than most nylon/textile wallets, which was a welcome surprise. It's also a bit bigger than I expected, which is OK for me, but may not be for others. It's been, and I expect will continue to be, extremely durable.

I know this brand from those annoying rasta-colored messenger bags that young businesspeople carry on the subway. Whatever to that. The black-on-black is pretty discreet.

As a guy that somehow manages to mutilate wallets(I usually go through one a year), this thing has really stood the test of time.(around a year now)

I can't even see any wear.

    Cons:

Very stiff, doesn't even seem to "break in", so sometimes cards in the card slots are a pain in the rear.

    Pros:

    Truly indestructible

The wallet is bulletproof, but its built so tight, it's hard to get anything into it. I thinned the contents of my old wallet down considerably to fit into this new one, and still it has problems closing. It's no wonder they built in an elastic band to keep it all closed. Sew in a little slack at the fold, and this wallet will go a long way.

The wallet conception is a great idea. The only pit fall is that the elastic strap fatigues too quickly.

No surprises in the product - it delivers on what the adverts claim. Actually, more sturdy that expected. Hoping the elastic band lasts.

After being shamed in to buying a new wallet after being accused of having a "Costanza Wallet", I decided I needed to get something that would limit the amount of stuff I carry around, without having to actively manage what's in my wallet each morning.

I've owned several Timbuk2 messenger / laptop bags and have been really happy with the quality, so I thought I'd put my leather trifold to pasture.

I opted for the brown / black / brown color, and I have to say that it's not quite as nice-looking in person. It's a few steps up from "my grandchild made this at summer camp", but it has a kind of "old man" look to it. At 34, it inched me closer to my midlife crisis.

The edge material seems to be the same ballistic nylon that's used on other Timbuk2 products, and the center stripe is somewhere in between faux leather and vinyl. It's pretty durable, but feels a bit odd. The wallet itself also feels a bit odd. After owing this for a couple of months, the nylon hasn't softened a bit, so it's still quite rigid, and can be uncomfortable at times.

What has softened is the elastic strap. After a week or two, it basically flopped around. I'm kicking around cutting it off, because it serves no purpose now, and only adds to the "old man with a rubber band around his wallet" mystique.

Going back to the material, it's surprisingly bulky. If you carry around any appreciable mix of credit / loyalty cards, This definitely isn't the wallet for you. If you're not carrying around cash, you can fit about two cards in each pocket. (For reference, I'm counting a drivers license / ID as a card, too)

For what it cost, I'm not completely disappointed, but in retrospect, I think I should have returned this and bought a different wallet.
