I purchased this travel pack because (1) I am a fan of Timbuk2 (my everyday bag being the H.A.L.) and (2) I always travel with a carry on when flying. In terms of quality, the pack is typical of Timbuk2's excellent quality although a couple of pull-tags were curiously absent for the the top and front zippered pockets. The internal organization is minimal but typical for travel packs: no organizer pockets or key lanyard present anywhere. It is flatter than my other travel pack (eBags eTech Weekender) by a couple of inches which will decreases capacity making this pack good for 3-4 day trips at most (while I am able to pack 6-7 days worth in the Weekender). Being smaller however will make moving through crowds (like down plane aisles) and finding overhead space easier. The straps are thinner than I expected given the size of the pack but remain comfortable regardless.

Let's get this out of the way first. I freaking LOVE this bag. Timbuk2 has thought of practically everything to satisfy the needs of a weekend traveller with the Aviator Backpack. Pockets are copious and can be accessed both inside and outside the bag. There's spots to clip things to the back or your straps. It can be compacted pretty small by utilizing the cinch straps and tucking away the shoulder/lumbar straps. Walking out in the rain? There's a rain fly in the side pocket to get you covered. The laptop sleeve fits my 15" MB Pro, so it should handle pretty much any laptop except for gaming machines. And if anything ever breaks there's a lifetime warranty that will repair or give you store credit with Timbuk2 to replace your bag. I've used it before with a messenger bag and the process is quick and painless.

I've used this for two trips so far and I've already received a few compliments and curious questions from travellers wondering where I found this bag. I can fit on average 3 pairs of pants, 3-4 shirts, a pair of shoes, and all my toiletries inside this thing. Highly recommended.

I travel extensively and go for business, pleasure and exploration (expeditions). I've had this out on its first trip. shoulder and waist straps are very comfortable. Compared to high end back packs. Much more comfortable that even the best business laptop backpacks. storage is ample enough for an overnight or two for business and easily a weekend for pleasure (depending on how large your shoes are and how many you take). One pair in the main compartment with whatever larger shoes you have you wear while you travel. Pockets are plentiful and surprisingly spacious. I converted the enclosed cover to the 'food compartment' and easily put in a weeks work of bars, nuts, tea, coffee (starbucks via's) and my headphone and a mouse for a very thin PC which is what will only fit in the packs laptop sleeve. I did put a windows 8 tablet, a iPad mini and an extra keyboard in there with room for all to lay flat. Its a large space, yet my Alienware 15" monster would not fit, its too thick. Width and length were fine. The top flap zipper when both zippers are unzipped to the widest opening take a bit of effort to get moving to close, yet not enough of an issue to detract from the rating. Top storage area housed apples and more fruit plus 3 cases of sunglasses with no problems. The outside front pocket held more coffee packets, my little first aid kit, passport, wallet and a number of other 'flat' things. The flap pocket is perfect for other small items like gum, mints, pens, work badges, changes, headphones, ear plugs and for girls I supposed some of the usual handy make up things such as lipstick, etc (other girl items). There's handles all over it, so moving it in and out of a car, in an out of overhead luggage bins is a snap. Its thin enough to go over head in all but the smallest prop jets.Read more ›

I purchased my Aviator pack from modernbike.com. It was $145 and the most I've ever spent. I purchased this pack planning on using it for school, as an overnight bag for visits, and as a carry on bag for my upcoming trip to Iceland.

So far, using it for school, it is a fantastic pack. I've been able to absolutely cram tons of stuff in it. The buckles are nice as you don't have to zip the bag up if you're just walking with it. This saves the zippers from busting with too much stuff in the pack. It also allows easy access by just unbuckling the top flap and one of the top side buckles. All of the straps can be taken off of the pack to save weight and bulk. I don't use the hip straps and they add a lot of bulk to the pack so those were the first to go. The laptop compartment is huge and very well padded on both sides. I plan on adding more after my trip

Likes:
Straps can be completely removed or tucked away
Large compartments allow for easy packing
Zippers are well tucked away
Buckles keep large items such as textbooks from falling out so zippers aren't really needed for walking between classes
Everything is easily accessible
Materials seem of high quality

Dislikes:
I really wish the rainfly were removable as I don't use it that often.

A-mazing bag... exquisite craftsmanship reminiscent of a fine European sedan. Solid build, absolutely beautiful. I travel internationally regularly and stick to only one carryon for my trips that sometimes last up to 2 - 3 weeks. I was holding out hope that that this bag would be large enough to serve as my lone bag for my trips and although I believe it will work ~ the size will be a bit restrictive. Length is fine, but if the depth were just 1 or 2 inches deeper, this would be the world's perfect travel bag. Still no reservations on price or purchase... still find myself just staring at it in the chair beside me in the airports...just so wish it were a tad bit larger.

Pros: Craftsmanship, materials, style, quality

Cons: Size ~ perfect length but a bit shallow
