Fun Bifold Wallet But Elastic Wears Out Fast,

This review is from: Timbuk2 Bifold Wallet (Sports)
I already owned a nice Mont Blanc leather wallet but decided I wanted a new, fun wallet to use. For classier duties, I could always go back to the black leather wallet. The Timbuk2 bifold caught my eye because I'm a big fan of their messenger bags and laptop cases. For the most part, the Timbuk2 Bifold Wallet met my expectations and needs, for about 2 months.First, I found the dimensions to be appropriate (W-4.13 x H-3.74 x D-0.39). It's a little shorter, but wider than my leather wallet. The Timbuk2's dimensions made more sense to me since most back pockets are typically wide and sometimes short. It fit in my Lucky Brand jeans just fine. The ballistic nylon material feels sturdy enough to take some abuse. "Super-durable ballistic nylon and a slim design so you won't look like you've got a giant a**." Unfortunately, there are only 4 card slots, which is surprising given that it's actually wider than my leather wallet which has 6 card slots AND 2 side slots. One of the card slots is an ID slot for your driver's license or school ID. I was at least able to put 2 cards in each slot. Also, the slots are deep so you won't be able to eyeball what's in them like you can with some wallets where you can see the top edge to identify them. The main billfold has a divider so you can separate your bills or keep receipts on one side and bills on the other. The last design note worth mentioning is the stretchy band. At first I really didn't think I would use it or want to. But the wallet won't completely shut, even empty, unless you strap it with the band. This may be cumbersome to some people, but it didn't bother me. It is probably the least durable part of the wallet though, so it may fray or wear over time. If so, Timbuk2 will more than likely take care of it as they stand behind their products for life. Also, though Timbuk2 makes many of their bags on 16th & Alabama in San Francisco, the wallet probably is not. If you want a fun, durable, no-frills, nylon wallet, the Timbuk2 is sure to meet your needs. "So stuff your cash and go sit on you're a**...!" **03/19/2010 UPDATE** I was right about the elastic band being the least durable part of the wallet. In just a couple of months, the band stopped being so stretchy and it won't keep the wallet snugly shut. In fact, it is so loose that whenever I put the wallet in my back pocket, the band slips right off the wallet. I contacted Timbuk2 Customer Service and they were fantastic in helping me. Though this one particular product failed, I knew all along that Timbuk2 was a solid company that took care of their customers.

Nice Wallet, But Lacks Capacity,

I wanted this wallet for the orange accents. It is nice and is comfortable to sit on. It has two sections for cash, but only four card pockets. I need more than that (with insurance cards, credit cards, bank cards, store club cards, ID, etc), so I am putting two cards in each pocket. It is still not enough rooom, but that could be a good thing because it has forced me to travel lighter. Also, because the pockets are tight and deep, I no longer have to worry about cards falling out of my wallet. The band is a little annoying at first, but you come to value it.

The wallet conception is a great idea. The only pit fall is that the elastic strap fatigues too quickly.

The wallet is bulletproof, but its built so tight, it's hard to get anything into it. I thinned the contents of my old wallet down considerably to fit into this new one, and still it has problems closing. It's no wonder they built in an elastic band to keep it all closed. Sew in a little slack at the fold, and this wallet will go a long way.

Stylish, tough as nails, perfect size. This is my favorite wallet. When/if this one wears out, I will buy another Timbuk2 brand wallet. I'm a fan!!

After being shamed in to buying a new wallet after being accused of having a "Costanza Wallet", I decided I needed to get something that would limit the amount of stuff I carry around, without having to actively manage what's in my wallet each morning.I've owned several Timbuk2 messenger / laptop bags and have been really happy with the quality, so I thought I'd put my leather trifold to pasture. I opted for the brown / black / brown color, and I have to say that it's not quite as nice-looking in person. It's a few steps up from "my grandchild made this at summer camp", but it has a kind of "old man" look to it. At 34, it inched me closer to my midlife crisis. The edge material seems to be the same ballistic nylon that's used on other Timbuk2 products, and the center stripe is somewhere in between faux leather and vinyl. It's pretty durable, but feels a bit odd. The wallet itself also feels a bit odd. After owing this for a couple of months, the nylon hasn't softened a bit, so it's still quite rigid, and can be uncomfortable at times. What has softened is the elastic strap. After a week or two, it basically flopped around. I'm kicking around cutting it off, because it serves no purpose now, and only adds to the "old man with a rubber band around his wallet" mystique. Going back to the material, it's surprisingly bulky. If you carry around any appreciable mix of credit / loyalty cards, This definitely isn't the wallet for you. If you're not carrying around cash, you can fit about two cards in each pocket. (For reference, I'm counting a drivers license / ID as a card, too) For what it cost, I'm not completely disappointed, but in retrospect, I think I should have returned this and bought a different wallet.

I bought the two-tone over the solid color versions because of the looks. And it does look good. I like small wallets, I don't believe in carrying all my cards around with me all the time. If you do, you should look for another wallet. Read below to see what I managed to carry. The build and stitching looks solid. I've used it for almost a month now and it looks as good as new. I don't bother with the elastic strap most of the time. I have 4 credit card sized cards, my driver's license, my electronic access badge and a transit card in mine. I also carry around 4 to 5 bills. It can just about fit all that - I can probably fit in a few more bills as well. There's a hole in the transparent ID window, presumably so that you can slide out the ID. Doesn't work - my driver's license is just big enough not to fit in there easily. It also obstructs part of the ID, but usually no one is interested in having me take out my ID to scrutinize it, so that's OK. The wallet is rather wide for fitting into my front jeans pocket, I wish it were narrower. That's the only reason for the 4 star rating. If it were 1/2 inch narrower, I'd give it 5 stars.

This wallet has been good but not perfect. The strap wears out but its mainly a cosmetic part of the wallet. I cut off the strap and its not a problem. The pockets that hold the credit cards are tall meaning that your cards are totally enclosed in their pockets. This is great until you try to pull out your cards... it makes it touch to pull them out.I have no doubt that this wallet will last forever. So far I have been pleased with it!

I have had two of this exact wallet in the past and they both were great, the band that wraps around it never broke and it felt sturdy. I was dissappointed when I ordered the new one as you can feel the quality has gone down. Especially the band around it, it will most likely break. I've only had it a month and it is looking pretty bad.Timbuk2 - What happened with quality?

On first inspection I was unsere on the size of the wallet and the extra elastic strap but after using the wallet for about 10 days, I do like it. Good size and durable materials. A good choice.
