4.0 out of 5 stars Works for me
For me, this pad adds much comfort when my bag is full and heavy. The velcro fastener runs the length of the pad and secures to the strap quite well. I can attach it as tightly as I want, so it either stays put (very put), or I can attach it so it can slide a little as I adjust my bag from my front to my back.

My only gripe is that I think this should have come "stock" with the Timbuk2 laptop messenger bag that costs $100. But I guess for those who are color coordinating, buying it separately gives them the option of picking different colors.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nifty Strap Pad - Makes all the difference, November 17, 2007
This review is from: Timbuk2 Griptex Messenger Bag Strap Pad (Apparel)
An absolute must-have for your Timbuk2 Messenger esp if you tend to carry heavy items like a laptop (Macbooks are NOT light). It makes commuting much more tolerable and pain-free on the shoulders. The problem is that it sometimes makes it difficult for me to slide my bag from my back to the front and vice versa, though this is easily solved by loosening the strap pad itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, January 17, 2008
This review is from: Timbuk2 Griptex Messenger Bag Strap Pad (Apparel)
I bought this product to add a shoulder pad to a crumpler camera bag. I also have bought a Timbuk2 should pad for another bag without the grip feature. The advantage of this product is that is has a grip texture that prevents the shoulder strap from sliding off. It worked without any problems.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's great to begin with but fades with time, February 2, 2011
When I bought my bag I was really excited I've always had issues in school with bags that sucked. Sadly it wasn't until after I graduated and moved out that I found Timbuk2 while researching biking gear. Anyways when I bought the bag I also purchased the strap the reason behind choosing the griptex was that I wanted it to stay where I put it. It did it's job perfectly..for a while.

Pros:
1. When new worked like a charm.
2. Stayed in place
3. great price
4. looks good
5. adds a nice amount of cushion.

Cons:
The bag is advertised to outlive you so I assumed such a guarantee would extend to their straps, sadly with the griptex this simply is not the case.
1.The grip wears off and gets smooth/shiny (like rubbing a remote controller with fried chicken)
2.It could be a matter of environment (great northwest)but my strap started to develop cracks like in car vinyl very inconvenient.
3.number 2 can cause scratches to clothing/skin nothing serious just irritating.

Overall:
love the bag, loved the strap while it did its job, but since its degraded I'm going to have to buy a new one. I've owned the bag/strap for about 6-7 months so not that long. So in the end congrats for choosing timbuk2 bags but go with a different strap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not using for stated purpose, October 7, 2011

I bought one of these at an 'outlet, close-out type, store' a few years ago. Looked like another product that was marketed as a seatbelt shoulder-strap pad. This worked better and was of higher quality too. I searched the internet, found the item on Amazon. I bought six more for two front seat belts in our vehicle and two for someone else.

3.0 out of 5 stars too large and heavy for my needs, January 27, 2011
This review is from: Timbuk2 Griptex Messenger Bag Strap Pad (Apparel)
I cannot find a small strap for a woman's purse. This looked promising, but it was too long and heavy.
May I suggest a smaller pad?

1.0 out of 5 stars griptex should change name to sliptex, January 22, 2011

This is supposed to keep messenger bag from slipping off your shoulder. For me, it did the exact opposite. Its big and bulky, uncomfortable. Wearing a winter coat, it just slides right off. So I tried just wearing it without a coat, same thing, slides more than original pad. Save your money, this does not work if slipping is the issue you're having.

Bought one, but doesn't make the bag any more comfortable. It still hurts on your shoulder. It does add a little to stability for the timbuk2 classic messenger but not by much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Camera Bag Lifesaver, January 23, 2010

If you are a professional photographer, this is one of those accessories that makes life just a bit easier. Recently, I purchased a Timbuk2 messenger bag that came with a strap pad, but I like the material on this strap pad even better. The material has a gripping texture, so it doesn't slide around on your shoulder, any I don't have to constantly check to see if the strap is sliding off. The best thing I can say about this pad is that it makes my "very heavy" camera bag feel a whole lot lighter.
