5.0 out of 5 stars Long time listener, first time reviewer.
In the late 60's and early 70's, I was always on the lookout for interesting releases by obscure new bands, and the place to find them was at Tower Records on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood. I stumbled across a group called Glass Harp and their album was an ear opener. I eventually bought 3 albums (I still have them) before the group disappeared. About 1975 I saw the WHAT A...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but misses most of the real gems
As a Phil Keaggy fan who's heard about 1/2 to 2/3 of all the music he had recorded at the time of this album's release, I think it misses many of his best songs. I still enjoy listening to most of these tracks, but most of them are average Keaggy songs. That isn't a bad thing, because the average Keaggy song is quite good--I just don't think this deserves the "best...

I stumbled across a group called Glass Harp and their album was an ear opener. I eventually bought 3 albums (I still have them) before the group disappeared. About 1975 I saw the WHAT A DAY album by Phil Keaggy in a Christian bookstore. What a sweet, melodic piece this title song was... and still is. This compilation CD covers Phil Keaggy's prolific career with some excellent selections from this guitar master. Also give a listen to VOL.2-TIME for some more older, no longer available nuggets. In fact, just about any PK disk is worth having. Keep checking Amazon's Auction site for early PK album titles like WHAT A DAY, LOVE BROKE THRU, EMERGING, THE MASTER and the MUSICIAN, and BEYOND NATURE. Phil Keaggy will open your ear, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Most Talented Christian Entertainers- Ever! #1, August 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Time 1 (Audio CD)
If you don't believe it, just have a listen for yourself. Phil has a gift for songwriting, singing, and most of all playing guitar- all for Jesus! It features a Glass Harp (his 1st band) rendition of "Do Lord". It features ballads ("Find Me In These Fields" and "Little Ones", a beautiful tribute to the Pro-Life movement). But it also features rock ("Sunday's Child", the title track of an album Amazon.com needs to pick up, and "Love Divine", Phil's tribute to the Beatles). Even if you don't like Christian music, you cannot underestimate the talent of Mr. Keaggy, who is able to put out at least one project per year. And of course, who cannot appreciate his great love for God, whether Christian or not? Also, check out Time 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Christian CD To Listen To, September 15, 2001
By
This review is from: Time 1 (Audio CD)
Phil Keaggy is one of my most favorite Christian music artists. His music is so great to listen to, very simple yet uniquely one of a kind. The lyrics are good, sending a clear, strong message. The guitar work is really cool. Here are a few of my most favorite songs from his album "Time 1":

I've Just Begun (Again): This song talks about a simple optimism in our walk with Christ. Even if we run into hard and sad times, we still have hope. We have to "try not to think of things that can't be done" because God can do anything.

Sunday's Child: Another great song, the main theme of the song is about meeting the "King of Hearts".

Love Divine: A fun song with a simple and loving message, about a "Divine Love" from our Lord.

I Will Be There: A song with a beautiful tune and beautiful lyrics. The song is telling about Jesus "will always be there" for you.

Where Is My Maker?: The words were taken from the book of Job, when Job cried out "where is my Maker?" The shuffle at the end is really neat, making me want to tap my feet and snap my fingers to the beat.

What A Day: "What a day that will be when we go up to heaven" is the theme of the songs. Makes me want to sing along!!

If you would like to start collecting Phil Keaggy albums, I suggest you start with this album, then "Time 2". Don't miss out on these great music!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars New Fans Start Here, December 29, 1999

If you have just discovered Phil Keaggy (like I did!) then buy this and Time 2 first. You will get a great overview of Phil's career from his first recording as a teenager through 1995. After you've played Time 1 & 2 and fallen in love with them, pick up True Believer and Phil Keaggy, both released after Time 1 & 2. Then pick up On The Fly or 220 for some great electric instrumentals. Next, you can buy Dove Award winner Acoustic Sketches for acoustic instrumentals. After that, you're on your own!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album by a great guitarist!, August 26, 1999
This review is from: Time 1 (Audio CD)
As I said this is a great album and is my favorite Phil Keaggy album. This compilation of songs clearly shows the broad range of musical styles that Phil has dabbled with over his long career and showcases his amazing guitar playing skills. The tracks go from acoustic ballads like "Little Ones" to rockers like the previously unreleased version of "Time". If you're a Keaggy fan and/or love good guitar music, this is an album you'll want to add to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Memories, September 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Time 1 (Audio CD)
When I was 3 years old my mom and dad got saved. My dad was a guitarist in a on the rise rock band. After burning all of his secular records he staring listening to artists like Phil Keaggy. I remember most of the songs featured on this CD as tunes my dad played on his guitar, or songs we sang at the top of our lungs in the evening. This CD & Vol. 2 is a cumulative work of one of the fore-founders of Jesus music. Each song is like another year and memory in my life. The songs my be poetic, rockin',praise, or just about any style. But the thing that draws me is that the songs are pictures of Phil's life. They are meaningful and real. The jacket of each CD has a paragraph about each song telling us when, where, why, and how the song was created. I have listened to these 2 albums more than any other in my extensive collection...worth it's weight in GOLD!!! =)

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, November 22, 2008
This review is from: Time 1 (Audio CD)
I picked this up used as it contains some songs hard to find on CD, most notably for me' Find Me In These fields' - It isn't the best compilation overall, but I know there are 2 parts to this, a volume 1 and 2. Phil keaggy is a gift guitarist and singer and songwriter. 'Beyond nature' is a good one he did and the OOP 'Find Me in These Fields' - also Sundays Child, good one.
