An uninspired collection of Cyndi Lauper's work...,

I am a huge Cyndi Lauper fan, but this collection falls short of being a "best of" CD truly representative of the artist's finest work. None of the songs appearing on this CD are remastered and exhibit pretty poor sound quality. Even Cyndi's 1995 American "best of" CD sounds better than this newer release.
Also, the hits on this CD are the album versions, not the superior (and harder to find) single versions. The recordings of "She Bop" and "What's Going On" spring to mind, because the album versions are truly inferior to the mixes that were popular on American radio. (The single versions can be found on the previoulsy mentioned 1995 collection called "Twelve Deadly Cyns.") Also, not all of Cyndi's hits appear on this CD. Where are "Hole In My Heart," "Boy Blue" and "My First Night Without You"? All charted respectably but are left off in favor of some non-single tracks. Well, I guess some fans will pick up this CD for the Top Ten hit "Goonies 'R' Good Enough," but the song doesn't hold up as well as Cyndi's other '80s material. (She was wise to leave the "Goonies" tune off her domestic anthology, even though fans--myself included-- complained.) A few great non-hit songs are here, like "When You Were Mine" and "I Don't Want To be Your Friend," but there is a lot of filler, like the subpar song "The World Is Stone" and the cover of "Iko Iko" Bottom line: skip it. Go with the domestic anthology. It has much better songs and superior sound quality.

Cyndi is worth her weight in gold!,

This may not be as great a greatest hits CD as "Twelve Deadly Cyns" but this is worth purchasing. "Girls Just Want To Have Fun", "She Bop", and "Change Of Heart" are all classics. "Time After Time", "All Through The Night" and "I Drove All Night" show what a beautiful singer she can be. "Maybe He'll Know" is a great track that is included here. It features Billy Joel on background vocals. The best reason to get this is for the extremely hard to find "The Goonies R Good ERnough" which is no longer available here and was left off "Twelve Deadly Cyns". It is a great classic that you must have if you are a Cyndi fan.

Cyndi Lauper helped to define 80s pop and spoke to a generation thanks to her high-pitched squeal, powerhouse vocals and "she's so unusual" style.A definitive greatest hits collection is in order for this superstar. One that includes the standard hits ("Girls Just Want To Have Fun," "Time After Time," "True Colors"), the low-charters ("The Goonies 'R' Good Enough," "Hole In My Heart") and the misses ("My First Night Without You") along with rare tracks ("You Make Lovin' Fun"), outtakes and new stuff. So, in short, a boxed set. This greatest hits package is not the place to start if you're just discovering Cyndi Lauper. (Start with "12 Deadly Cyns...and then some") It's more a set for long-time fans who are more familiar with her music, but if a new fan were to choose this collection they wouldnt be disappointed. Aside from the basic standard hits, you get "The World Is Stone," a rarer track, "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough," and a nice selection of album tracks from "She's So Unusual" ("When You Were Mine"), "True Colors" ("Maybe He'll Know," "Iko Iko") and "A Night To Remember" ("I Don't Want To Be Your Friend"). Not the best collection, but a solid mix of hits and misses.
