1.0 out of 5 stars Time After Time
An interesting attempt at looking at how a modern woman may (or may NOT) adjust to being thrown back in time 100 years. The main character spends a great deal of time railing against the concept of time travel and saying it isn't possible. An interesting attempt at looking at how a modern woman may (or may NOT) adjust to being thrown back in time 100 years. The main character spends a great deal of time railing against the concept of time travel and saying it isn't possible. A majority of the book is spent with the main character coming to "acceptance" of the situation and building relationships with other women in the time.

The actual romance is a secondary and minor plot. The male lead is not the focus of the character development and seems pretty flat. If you are looking for a story with a woman having trouble accepting her situation, this book is for you. If you're looking for a in-depth romance, this book misses the mark.

5.0 out of 5 stars time travel romance that is teriffic, February 19, 2001

Kelly Brennan believes no one is for her ever since her beloved Michael died. Unable to really cope with his death, Kelly became fanatical about her small travel agency throwing all her emotions and time into making it a success. At a wedding party, Kelly suddenly finds herself plunged back one century.

Initially Kelly thinks that somehow she just became lost when she strolled into the nearby woods. However, she soon realizes this is not her New Orleans any longer. Widower Daniel Gilmore looks just like Kelly's Michael. He thinks she is a bit daft, but also worries that his daughter believes she is a fairy because of Kelly's green bridesmaid dress. To her surprise, Kelly feels comfortable in her new century though she misses some modern conveniences. She must now persuade Daniel that they belong together but to reach him Kelly must help him heal his emotional scars.

As expected by one of the leading authors of time travel romance, Constance O'Day-Flannery has written a powerful tale that provides fans with much pleasure. The story line is fast-paced once Kelly goes back in time. Daniel is a hunk of a leading man who will garner audience empathy. His daughter steals the show at times with her naive pronouncements. Though the mechanism for trip back is not really explained, TIME AFTER TIME Ms O'Day-Flannery successfully entertains the sub-genre reader.

3.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed this book, but...., March 16, 2001

I really enjoyed this book, but I am not sure why. I have always been a fan of Ms. O'Day-Flannery and she continues to impress me with her writing. The reader can always expect a chuckle when reading the mishaps of her time travelers. This book was a quick read with little thought or mystery. I thought that Ms. O'Day-Flannery could have gone more in-depth on many things she just touched on in her book. There were so many avenues that she pointed to but never really went down. (I.E the suffrage movement, the issue of slavery, how Kelly fit into this era) However I bow to her expertise. All in all it was a good book but I wasn't sure of the point. Like enjoying a meal, but not leaving the table full.

1.0 out of 5 stars Read her other ones instead, July 16, 2001

I've been reading Constance O'Day-Flannery's books for a while now, and I always pick up every new one. But this one is a major disappointment! The characters are flat, too nicey-nice, and it's just really boring. I used to believe in the romance in her novels, but, in her last three or four, she's gotten too New Agey (and I say this as a native Californian) and has forgotten the basic principles of romance. Try her earlier ones instead, especially "Once in a Lifetime," which is really good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quick and easy read, entertaining and thought-provoking story, July 28, 2008

I was actually surprised by this book, in that I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I love time-travel novels and a friend gave me this one to read ... now I'm going to find more by the author!

I will say it was a very quick and easy read, with some depth and some very comical scenes. Some of the central themes about love and death made me think. I do think Kelly assimilated into 19th century life a little too easily. And that the 19th century people she interacted with seemed to take her bold and unorthodox ways a little too smoothly. However these issues didn't detract from my enjoyment of the story.

I especially loved Mammy Clara and Miss O'Days character portrayal of her ...what a rich and rewarding character. All in all, I'm gladI read it.

P.S. The story would make for a fabulous movie!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!, January 25, 2005

I loved this book. I felt like the characters were really developed, and you could truly understand the progression of the romantic relationship. I enjoy lots of romance novels, but many develop into love out of the blue! One minute their fighting but lusting and the next they're declaring undying love. This author took me with the characters through their feelings;it felt real. I can't wait to read more of her novels.
