Time for Andrew written by Mary Downing Hahn is an enjoyable book about two boys -Drew and Andrew- who switch times and lives. I loved this book because the author added so much description that it painted beautiful pictures in my mind.
The characters in the story are well developed and are described extremely well. The author used the technique of describing characters by what other characters say about them. The main characters are Drew and Andrew...two boys who look exactly alike.
The setting is in the late 1950's and 1910 and the main setting is Aunt Bylthe's house. A few backdrop settings are France and the train track.
I would rate this book a 10 for its extremely amazing description.

Because they are almost identical in appearance they switch places in order for Andrew to get modern medical attention. So once Andrew is healthy again he doesn't want to switch back, so Andrew says when Drew can beat him in marbles he will switch back.
I like the plot of the story because it keeps you wondering what will happen next, especialy when Drew gets dared to jump off a high trustle, by a bully.. It is a good book, I suggest you read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars TIME FOR A GOOD STORY!, February 6, 1999
By A Customer
I loved this book it kept me reading and reading! but when Drew's parents go to "dig" in France Drew is suppose to stay with his very nice and understanding Great Aunt Blythe. But when Great Aunt Blythe brings Drew up in the attic Drew stepped on a loose board and found marbles that they could sell and fix the house up but then Drew finds a note that says:"WARNING THEESE MARBLES BELONG TO ANDREW JOSEPH TYLER IF YOU TAKE THEM YOU WILL BE SORRY. 7 JUNE 1910." But Aunt Blythe takes them anyway and in the night a boy comes into Drews room he is identicle to Drew but has Diptheria. The boys decide to switch places but when they do they seem to forget things from there own times. But Drew falls in love with Andrews sister Hannah. A tomboy that only acts like a lady when Jhon Larkin is around. Drew also adores Andrews brother Theo. Theo is a troublemaker that likes when Andrew gets in trouble with him. Drew also loves Andrews parents and finds himself calling them Mama and Papa. But Andrew did not tell Drew one thing Papa whips the kids with a belt instead of talking about it like his real Dad would when they get in trouble. Then Andrew and Drew make an agreement when Drew wins a game of marbles they will switch back to there own times. Andrews cousin Edward is a real idiot and at the end of the story Drew gives Edward a punch in the nose but does ot know who hit Edward him or Andrew.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just try to imagine Aunt Blythe's creepy house!, December 17, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Time for Andrew: A Ghost Story (Paperback)
Time For Andrew is written by Mary Downing Hahn. It is published by Avon books. Time For Andrew was published in 1994. Do you like mysterious books?
Drew is visiting Aunt Blythe for two months. He hears cries and starts to see things. Then he finds Andrew, who has diptheria. Andrew wants to switch with Drew for a cure. Drew agrees.
When Drew goes to bed one night during a storm he sees the attic door open. That's when he meets Andrew.
" You can't be alive," Drew whispered, "you can't - it's impossible."
" Do I look as bad as that?" Andrew asked. "Dr. Fulton told Mama I was like to die before morning, but he saved me from blood poisoning last year and the measles the year before that, and cough and whooping cough as well. Hannah lived through diptheria. She says I will too."
Others will like this book because it is very interesting and mysterious. Drew is not realistic. You will find mysterious things happening throughout this book. At times it will make you shiver. If you like mystery and ghost books, you will like this book.
I would give Time For Andrew a 1 with1 being the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best book I've read since Harry Potter, September 27, 2002

This review is from: Time for Andrew: A Ghost Story (Paperback)
In fact I don't no which is better! I'm Ten and I loved this book. Time for Andrew is a story about two kids that are related, both named Andrew and are identical but from 2 totally different time zones. One is from 1910 and the other is from 1990 and they have the exact opposite personalities. One is rough and doesn't get picked on but the other is weak and can't defend himself. When they first meet the Andrew from 1910 is almost dead with Diptheria. The two Andrews switch places in time. Well what the Andrew from 1990 found out is that once the Andrew from 1910 is healed he doesn't want to switch back. To be able to go back to his regular time period he has to play ringer a game he doesn't know how to play and beat the other Andrew. The book is a good mystery and has lots of suspense.

4.0 out of 5 stars Time For Andrew- A Great Book, February 23, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Time for Andrew: A Ghost Story (Paperback)
Drew goes to stay at his great-aunt's house while his parents are in France for the summer. He meets a boy named Andrew who is supposed to be dead, but somehow he has transported himself from his time, 1910, to the present. Andrew begs Drew to switch "places" with him. Andrew has been sick and wants to stay in Drew's time until he is well. Drew is a worrier and is doubtful about the idea. They switch places and Drew becomes more like Andrew that himself everyday, and the same happens to Drew. They finally switch back when Drew beats Andrew in Ringer. The next day, Drew's great-aunt tells him that her cousins (Andrew and his sister) are coming for a visit. Andrew and Drew talk and go out to the little cemetary behind the house. They look for Andrew's grave and don't find it. That means that Andrew lived.

4.0 out of 5 stars Time for Andrew, March 19, 2001

This review is from: Time for Andrew: A Ghost Story (Paperback)
I read a book called, "Time for Andrew" by Mary downing Hahn. This was a great book that kept you on the edge of your seat the hole time. It is about a boy named Drew. He had two choices for his summer vacation. He could go to camp with his bully from school, or go and visit his Aunt Blyth. He chose to go to his Aunt's house. Drew is what i would call a scardycat or a worry wart. He worrys all the time and is afraid of almost everything. When Drew is visiting, he finds some marbles in the attic, and gives them to his Aunt. She sais that they shouldn't be kept in the attic, and takes them downstairs. Drew had a bad feeling about this. That night Drew meats the ghost of his Great Uncle Andrew. He found out eirlier, that His great Uncle had died when he was young, form a disease that could be cured with todays modern medicine. His Uncle and Drew look identicle to one another. When Andrew Finally talks to Drew, he sais that Drew had stolen his marbles and he had come to retreave them. In the story, the attic plays as a time machinne for the two boys. Drew agrease to let Andrew switch places with him until he is cured. When Drew does go back into the past for a week, he goes up to the attic and meets Andrew. Andrew doesnt want to leave the future, so they chalenge eachother to a game of marbles, the ones that drew had found. When Drew wins, Andrew goes back into the past and Drew will go back to the present day. That is if he wins. Andrew was cured form his disease, which means that they changed the past, and the future. But Will Drew ever get to see his family again, or will he be stuck in Andrews body forever? I think that this book was a little confusing because Andrew and Drew constantly are switching places, and it is a little hard to follow. Although, I did rate this book a four star book, because it is a great thriller. I would reccomend this book to anyone that likes Mysteries and likes suprise endings.
