5.0 out of 5 stars Tracklisting not accurate. September 28, 2005
By Johnny
Format:Audio CD
I just wanted to point out that there are nine tracks on this album, not eight. Correct tracklist:

1. Prelude to the Apocalypse

2. Condemned to Nothingness

3. Thought beyond Infinity

4. The Infestation

5. Rebirth of Consciousness

6. Shroud of Impurity

7. Concepting the Era

8. Of Genocide (instrumental)

9. ...And Time Begins

"Concepting the Era" is a separate track from "Of Genocide".

As for the album, this is a great release of brutal and technical death metal. This is the kind of death metal that features endless riffs which hardly repeat, and songs that are less structured and more of a "run on sentence". This is not to say that the songs are thrown together or have no real flow, just that the style of songwriting does not follow a predictable pattern. If this sounds good to you, then you will love this album. The riffs and drumming are insanely technical and complex, repeated listens reveal some very groovy and catchy sections. The drums are heavily triggered but in this context it sounds great.

Before I got this album I was a little skeptical about whether o rnot I would like it very much, knowing that the songs hardly ever repeated anything. I was afraid it would be a directionless mess of riff after riff pasted together. To be honest with you, I can't really understand why the album doesn't have that effect. For some reason it just really works. Where another band would fail and end up with a jumble of riffs that would put the listener to sleep, Decrepit Birth have come up with a unique and brutal album that is a great addition to any death metal fan's collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY EFFIN RIGHTEOUS April 23, 2004
Format:Audio CD
Decrepit Birth is perfectly awesome. This disc is totally righteous, excellant deep sound and disharmony. They are total new. The Bill dude's voice is as good as it gets. Effing deep, and effing sick, this man actually is new mouth. He also has a totally righteous beard. Tim Yeung, the drummer, is first-class; he is truly perfect. This easily ties all other contenders as the best death metal debut of all time. It is indeed as proficient and inspired as Hate Eternal's debut, which Yeung is also the drummer on! His drums on this disc sound 100% triggered, but it's great. Yeung puts Tally, who recorded for the pre-release version, to shame. Verily, all of them are as good as it gets. Unique Leader does not fail. Grade A deathgrind.

This CD is what brutal death metal is right now! These guys play extremely fast and production is perfect. They are the Suffocation of this decade! Do not miss them.
