5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fantastic Music by "The B-52's"!, November 5, 2005
This review is from: Time Capsule: Greatest Hits (Rpkg) (Audio CD)
In 1998, the rock band from Athens, GA known as "The B-52's" released a greatest-hits album entitled "Time Capsule: Songs For A Future Generation", which was re-released in 2004 under the title "Time Capsule: Greatest Hits". Spanning the years 1979 to 1992, this album includes songs from all seven previous albums released by "The B-52's", including their 1979 self-titled album, "Wild Planet" (1980), "Mesopotamia" (1982), "Whammy!" (1983), "Bouncing Off the Satellites" (1986), "Cosmic Thing" (1989) and "Good Stuff" (1992). This album also included two new songs recorded in 1998: "Debbie" and "Hallucinating Pluto" for a grand total of 18 fantastic songs! My ratings for each of the album's songs are listed below:

1. "Planet Claire" (5+, from "The B-52's", 1979).

2. "52 Girls" (5, from "The B-52's", 1979).

3. "Rock Lobster" (5+, "The B-52's", 1979).

4. "Party Out Of Bounds" (5, "Wild Planet, 1980).

5. "Strobelight" (5+, "Wild Planet", 1980).

6. "Private Idaho" (5+, "Wild Planet", 1980).

7. "Quiche Lorraine" (5+, "Wild Planet", 1980).

8. "Mesopotamia" (5+, "Mesopotamia", 1982).

9. "Song For A Future Generation" (5+, "Whammy!", 1983).

10. "Summer Of Love (Original Unreleased Mix)" (5+, different mix from the song released on "Bouncing Off the Satellites", 1986).

11. "Channel Z" (5+, "Cosmic Thing", 1989).

12. "Deadbeat Club" (5+, "Cosmic Thing", 1989).

13. "Love Shack" (5+, "Cosmic Thing", 1989).

14. "Roam" (5+, "Cosmic Thing", 1989).

15. "Good Stuff", (5, "Good Stuff", 1992).

16. "Is That You Mo-Dean?", (5, "Good Stuff", 1992).

17. "Debbie" (5+, 1998).

18. "Hallucinating Pluto" (5, 1998).

Overall, I rate the album "Time Capsule: Greatest Hits" by "The B-52's" with a resounding 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it to anyone that loves fantastically fun music! I also can't wait to hear the new album that "The B-52's" are reportedly working on for a release sometime in 2006. Many thanks go to the individual members of "The B-52's": Kate Pierson, Cindy Wilson, Ricky Wilson (1953-1985), Fred Schneider and Keith Strickland!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not The Best Party..., January 15, 2008

This review is from: Time Capsule: Greatest Hits (Rpkg) (Audio CD)
"Time Capsule" is a B-52's career overview thru the year 1998. It serves up as a decent introduction for a mild fan and also a respectable addition for longtime supporters who already own a few albums by them. IT IS NOT THEIR BEST. These are mostly the radio hits and a little salad dressing while the group was not releasing any new albums . The "Summer Of Love" alternate mix is a vocal improvement from the original version. "Debbie" and "Hullucinating Pluto" were new songs at the time to attract completists. For a very best, "Anthology" is the way to go. The other option is this collection and the B-52's debut album. "Time Capsule" doesn't not have "Dance This Mess Around" and "Lava". These party songs is where the band hits dance grooves matched on this CD only by "Rock Lobster". In the fun catagory of music, the B-52's are as good as it gets. They merged early Rock & Roll organ beat with touches of Yoko Ono phrasing into a new wave sound of their own. "Time Capsule" is a good way to start, but never reaches full orbit.

Great selection. Vocals are pure B52's at their finest. Timeless. Keep CD in my car and no matter how crazy the day has been, just a minute or so into any track and I'm singing along and feeling great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun mix of oldies, some good new hits, December 24, 2010

I mostly like the older songs from most bands, and such is the case with the B-52s. I like "Roam" but many of the newer songs just don't have the far-out feel and creativity of the older songs. I would have loved to hear "Quiche Loraine" on this, but it's a serviceable collection of their greatest hits.
