5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book!, May 22, 2002
I really enjoyed Lurlene McDaniel's novel, A time to die. It was not a tremendously long book, but it still captured the emotiond of all the characters. All of Lurlene McDaniel's books are very sad and sometimes difficult to read because of this. But, at the same time, she incorporates happy, heart-warming bits of information that sort of turn the mood around. This novel is about a 16-year-old girl named Kara who has been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. The story shows her struggle to stay alive and it tells about her relationships with her 4 best friends; Eric, Christy, Elyse, and Vince, who is also a C.F. patient. I recommend this book to middle-schoolers and up because some of the emotions and concepts may be a bit difficult for younger children to understand. This book really touched my heart and I suggest that you buy it if you're in need of a good laugh, cry, or both.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite in the OWL Series!, October 9, 2001

This is diffenently my favorite One Last Wish book, and one of my favorite Lurlene McDaniel books! It is kind of like the movie Here On Earth, only this book is MUCH better! It is about sixteen year old Kara, who has a fatal lung desease. She is really close to this guy named Vince, who also has the same desease. He is obviously in love with her, but she only thinks of him as like a brother. She becomes friends with her therepists brother, Eric, and they eventually fall in love. Vince can't stand seeing her with another guy, but he accepts Eric because he only wants Kara to be happy. When her health takes a turn for the worse, Eric and Vince have to come together to help her through it. It was a great story. I loved Eric and thought he sounded adorible! And I really admire Kara and Vinces's positive attitudes while they are faced with constant danger. Even though they both know that they wont live for very long, they live their lives to the fullest and are thankful for each day God gives them.

ONE LAST WISH-A TIME TO DIE-Lurlene McDaniel Bantam Books 1992 PP. 154

Kara fisher is 16 and dying. Her incurable illness is Cystic Fibrosis. Ever since she was 3 years old, she has been treated daily so that she can simply breathe without drowning in her own mucus. Her friend Vince, who also has this deadly decease, and her new found love in Eric has given her the strength to hold on to life once more, but will she be able to use pure will power to fight off death again? Beautifully written, A Time to Die, shows the emotions of a young girl learning to accept death, and how her friends and family deal with her failing health and unfair death. Lurlene McDaniel truly has captured the emotions of her characters and shown their strengths and weaknesses.
