A Great Book!,
By Kristen (CT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Time to Die (One Last Wish) (Paperback)
I really enjoyed Lurlene McDaniel's novel, A time to die. It was not a tremendously long book, but it still captured the emotiond of all the characters. All of Lurlene McDaniel's books are very sad and sometimes difficult to read because of this. But, at the same time, she incorporates happy, heart-warming bits of information that sort of turn the mood around. This novel is about a 16-year-old girl named Kara who has been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. The story shows her struggle to stay alive and it tells about her relationships with her 4 best friends; Eric, Christy, Elyse, and Vince, who is also a C.F. patient. I recommend this book to middle-schoolers and up because some of the emotions and concepts may be a bit difficult for younger children to understand. This book really touched my heart and I suggest that you buy it if you're in need of a good laugh, cry, or both.

My favorite in the OWL Series!,
By Katy (McCalla, Al United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Time to Die (One Last Wish) (Paperback)
This is diffenently my favorite One Last Wish book, and one of my favorite Lurlene McDaniel books! It is kind of like the movie Here On Earth, only this book is MUCH better! It is about sixteen year old Kara, who has a fatal lung desease. She is really close to this guy named Vince, who also has the same desease. He is obviously in love with her, but she only thinks of him as like a brother. She becomes friends with her therepists brother, Eric, and they eventually fall in love. Vince can't stand seeing her with another guy, but he accepts Eric because he only wants Kara to be happy. When her health takes a turn for the worse, Eric and Vince have to come together to help her through it. It was a great story. I loved Eric and thought he sounded adorible! And I really admire Kara and Vinces's positive attitudes while they are faced with constant danger. Even though they both know that they wont live for very long, they live their lives to the fullest and are thankful for each day God gives them.

A Story of Friendship and Death,
By A Customer
This review is from: Time to Die #1 (School & Library Binding)
Of all of the Lurlene McDanilel books that I have read, which is almost all of them, this is my personal favorite. The book focuses on the life of a sixteen year old girl, Kara. She was diagnosed with C.F. when she was a young girl. She has had an on going friendship with a guy a few years older then her for a long time. He is one of her dearest friends. His name is Vince. He also has C.F. Durning the book she starts a relationship with her doctor's younger brother, Eric. Eric and Vince do not get a long, but for Kara's sake they try too. When Kara's C.F. starts to take serve effects on her, she is hospitalized. As a result to the serveness of the disease, she dies very young. This is a very compelling book that I would recommend to anyone. Just remember to have a kleenex box within reach.

It Brought a Tear to my Eye,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Time to Die (One Last Wish) (Paperback)
A Time to Die has to be my favourite book in the OWL series. Kara and Vince's struggle to live is very inspiring and I admire them both for their courage and determination. Because I, along with my brother, am a victim of CF, I was glad to see someone trying to make the world more aware of this disease. I could really relate to Kara and Vince and found their thoughts and feeling about their disease to be similar to my own. This book is very well written with interesting characters and plot twists. This book brought a definite tear to my eye.

A Tear Jerker,
This review is from: A Time to Die (One Last Wish) (Paperback)
This story has to be on of the best stories in the entire One Last Wish series. It shows the hardships that teens that have Cystic Fibrosis have to endure daily. Kara Fischer, a girl with C.F., shows what she goes through every day with this disease, and how it affects her every day life. She deals with the same things we deal with and more; and it shows how determined she is to have a normal life. When she falls in love with Eric, and he finds out about her C.F., I was surprised to see what he did. This book is a heart-wrenching story that brought a tear to my eye while reading it. It is an amazing book with a great truth behind it. Showing all of the things that happen to the people suffering from the disease, in using a child for the main character, makes you relate to the character even more; whether you have the disease or not.
Lurlene McDaniel is an amazing author who does her research to make the story even greater. Knowing the facts about what is actually happening and putting it down with a plot and characters, teaches you about the disease or problem while keeping you interested. The powerful way she writes makes you stay intrigued, and makes you want to keep turning the pages to see what happens. You want to know whether they are going to go out with someone or if they are going to get sick again. You begin to become that person and can feel what they are feeling, and can hear the voices of the other characters talking to you. You understand what is going on in their minds and what is in their hearts. Their feelings become yours; you cry when they cry, you feel the touch they feel, and you hear the words they hear. When you cry with them, you cry on both the inside and the outside as well. Your heart and eyes fill with tears and you just can't help but cry from both parts of you. You are them.

Stunning!,

This review is from: A Time to Die (One Last Wish) (Paperback)
This book is one of my favorites of McDaniel's. She has a knack for helping you identify with her characters as if they were real. That talent shines in this novel. Kara has CF,and her health is declining. Then she falls in love with Eric and receives an enormous amount of money from the mysterious JWC. How will she use it? The way she does is very touching, and in the spirit of JWC. But you'll have to read it to find out what happens. Be prepared for a poignant journey through a sick girl's life, and to learn a lot about CF. By the time you're done with it,you'll want to find a cure for this terrible disease. It's very sad,but you'll definitely love it! What are you waiting for? Buy it now from amazon.com!

A girl tries to cope with the fact that she has CF.,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Time to Die (One Last Wish) (Paperback)
I loved the book and I think the world should be more aware of the disease CF. Since I have the disease myself I think its a really great way people can find out about it. Since CF is an uncurable disease I thinks its a good way for the world to find out about the disease and donate to the cause.
