The Deviates are a newer punk band, but they have already gained alot of the skill and energy that other So Cal punk bands like Pennywise and Bad Religion have. 3.0 out of 5 stars Eh.
While it's not a bad album by any means, once you hear what their original sounds like, you don't really want this. It's like hearing a mid 90s Metallica album, and then hearing their 80s material: you don't want to go back to what you hear first. Deviates "MY LIFE" is a great skate punk album off a very indie label, whereas this is Epitaph. It shows that they wanted to...

The Deviates are a newer punk band, but they have already gained alot of the skill and energy that other So Cal punk bands like Pennywise and Bad Religion have. They have the good qualities of these bands, and have blazing fast skate-punk style songs. Their lead singer is also extremely talented, and has an aggressive voice that doesn't get whiny or preachy. Their lyrics are also excellent, avoiding any cliches and such. Also, the music is very good as well.

I heard some people calling the Deviates a typical So Cal punk band, but that can't be further from the truth. A typical band isn't this good. The only problem with this CD is that it is formulaic, and that many songs do blend together. This is a problem with many bands, and few ever change their style up. Hopefully the Deviates will do some experimental stuff and not stick with their given punk formula, because it can get monotone after a while. But still, the good on this CD is excellent. These guys have lots of energy, and it's hard to believe this is just their 2nd album, because they are really good. Within a few years, I'm very sure that the Deviates will be off the Volcom stage and on the main stage in the Warped Tour...they are in many ways the new generation of punk rock.

If you like punk rock, especially skater-punk, then I definitely reccomend getting this CD. It's loaded with alot of the energy that Cali punk bands are known for, and it shows us that punk is still strong, and that pop-punk is in big trouble.

While it's not a bad album by any means, once you hear what their original sounds like, you don't really want this. Deviates "MY LIFE" is a great skate punk album off a very indie label, whereas this is Epitaph. It shows that they wanted to be taken more seriously with their lyrical content being more political (as most punk bands are), the sound being more polished, and the instrumentation not being as fast or raw.

This band might be the next dynasty of punk rock. This is high energetic punk that doesnt deal with the ... whining of bands like Propagandhi, rather telling you be yourself, remember the good things, and forget the rest. And a Warped Tour, these guys made the Volcom stage avoid being an absolute joke, they put on a great show and dont preach ... to the weak minded. On a side note, this is dope dirtbike music too!! This is the other only decent punk band to come out besides Thrice, so click the magical buy button and youll be happy.

This album was shipped to WBAR, barnard college radio, where I DJ. Upon first listening, i was hooked. Come with me is a great intro song, and the remaining songs don't let you down. My favorites include right back to you and profile. Not too hard but filled with high energy that will keep your head moving. Although it isn't "hardcore", definately not pop-punk either. This one will remain in my cd player for some time to come.

I heard Deviates on the AOL radio which played "Come with me" and I was automaticly hooked on that song. I went out and got the CD only to be more supprised than ever, It was better than I thought it was going to be. This band isn't very well knowen were I live so I feel unique while listening to it. This Album is pure energy, no slow songs what so ever. All the tracks are great, in fact, I'm listening to it right now. Get this album if you like Pennywise, The Offspring, and Linkin Park. It's a mix of all of em.
