Book Description

September 1999
A Passion So Intense it frightened her...
intrigued her...
consumed her...
and called to her from another time.
What would possess an intelligent, self-sufficient woman to step into a world of magic and mystery, a dangerous land of intrigue and suspicion, a time far removed from her own?

After years of uncertainty, Audrey Williams could no longer ignore the beckoning from the man in her recurring dream. Brenden Ross, heir to an earldom, is about to embark on an ill-fated crusade to rescue Mary, Queen of Scots, and somehow Audrey must stop him.

Breaking free from the bonds of time, Audrey is plunged into the turbulent world of sixteenth-century Scotland where she will finally meet Brenden face-to-face. But once her eyes meet his, their hearts are bound as one, and their lives--and history--will never be the same.

Editorial Reviews

Review

" 4 hearts! Jen Holling paints a wondrous romantic world of dreams, psychic phenomena, and political intrigue against a well-researched, absorbing historic background. Great reading from a promising new author."

-- Romantic Times

"Although this book is a time-travel, I encourage anyone who loves history to read it! Ms. Holling's research into Mary, Queen of Scots' final years as a prisoner makes for a fascinating read. I had a hard time putting this book down! I look forward to more great stories from Ms. Holling's talented pen." -- The Writer's Club Romance Group

4 hearts! ... an impressibe debut. This kind of intelligent time-travel, with complex plot, truly conflicted characters, and a vivid historical backdrop, is just what the genre needs. -- The Romance Reader

5 hearts! A Time for Dreams is a masterfully written and vivid depiction of sixteenth-century Scotland. Jen Holling has incorporated just enough history and vivid splendor of a by-gone era to bring this moving tale of time-travel, love, and dangerous intrigue to life. I read this book in one sitting, savoring every page. If I had just one complaint, it would be the that the story ended much too soon, leaving me wanting more! -- New-Age Bookshelf

4.0 out of 5 stars A Darkly Enjoyable Read., February 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: A Time for Dreams (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm not usually interested in "romance" novels, but I am quite interested in Mary, Queen of Scots, and her third husband, the Earl of Bothwell, which is what inspired me to read this book. And I am glad I did. It is well written, involving, and the hero and heoine are rather more realistic and complex than the characters usually found in this genre.

As a Mary and Bothwell "fan," I liked that the book depicted them both favorably. Mary, of course, has had many defenders over the centuries, but Bothwell has not been as fortunate. I was delighted that Holling had the insight to portray him as the tragic hero I believe he was.

In short, I'd recommend the book to anyone interested in this type of fiction. Let's hope Holling tries her hand again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!, November 28, 1999
This review is from: A Time for Dreams (Mass Market Paperback)
Drochaid Castle, Scotland - 1980 to 1570 and 1996 to 1587. When Audrey Williams as a child visits Drochaid Castle in Scotland with her father, she notices a corridor that no one else does. As she ventures down it she meets a teenager dressed in costume. Frightened by the experience she has with the young man Audrey runs back down the hallway. When she meets up with her father and the rest of the tour group he points to something in the glass case that looks just like hers. Audrey is shaken, it's impossible, how can it be... she just lost it less than five minutes ago in the strange corridor....

A wonderful time travel romance with characters you will remember.

I just finished reading Jen Holling's fabulous debut novel, A TIME FOR DREAMS, and all I can say is "Wow!" What a thoroughly enjoyable, utterly romantic story! Audrey and Brenden make a great pair, and their story is one that will stay with me for a long time. This book goes high on my keeper shelf and Jen Holling goes to the top of my must-buy author list. Thanks for a great read, Ms. Holling!
