5.0 out of 5 stars Hugo does it again
Although this album is more laid back and has more ballad type songs than his first solo album, this one is still a GREAT album. The one thing that Hugo does on this album is seperate his style of singing a little more away from Steve Perry. If you like Hugo you will love this album. It's more in the vain of the Open Skyz album. Highly recommended

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great
To start off with Hugo's vocals are great top notch AOR. This album was a little different for a few reasons. 1) He uses different musicians on this album. 2) Gary Hughes of Ten is missed in the songwriting department. The album is more ballad intensive good to be sure but one that you need to be in the mood for. A good album but not as good as his first.

I was skeptical that anyone could match Steve Perry's vocals but Hugo does it and does it well. The first song "Can't Stop Loving You" gave me chills. It was so good! "Tell it to her heart" is just like a great Journey song. "The Love Song" is another fabulous tune. Triumph's Magic Power is better by Hugo than it was by Triumph.

This album totally reminds me of Escape by Journey.

Any Journey fan will LOVE this album. Buy it and reward yourself with some awesome Journey sounding music.

I got this cd to hear the cover of Triumph's Magic Power and cuz every one is comparing this guy to the greatest voice in rock, Steve Perry. The music is very Journey sounding and at times has a strong Perry vibe.(his first solo cd really has that Journey vibe on it! Get it if you can!)Anyway after a few listens i got hooked on this. Highlights for me are "anyone in love","This love song" ah heck this whole cd is great! If you like good music and have good taste you'll order now!

4.0 out of 5 stars A MAN OF STEVE PERRY VOICE, April 13, 2000
This review is from: Time on Earth (Audio CD)
If you are Journey/Steve Perry fan, this album is a must. Although not as great as Journey, those who miss Steve Perry can enjoy this album. Given greater support Hugo will surely rock the nation. Recommended tracks are Tell It To My Heart, which reminds me of Only The Young, Last One More Time which has similar ballad style of Faithfully. Fine, Blues For You and Magic Touch(cover of Triumph masterpiece track) are also fine tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, July 21, 2000

Simply an awesome album. Great songs the whole way through. Hugo is really amazing and has a great voice. The album lacked slightly in production, but more than made up for that in the songs and the musicianship. All in all, Time On Earth is stellar!

4.0 out of 5 stars Laid back AOR, July 10, 2006
This review is from: Time on Earth (Audio CD)
I suppose it shouldn't surprise anyone that Hugo's 2000 album Time on Earth is a lighter affair than its predecessor. Starting with his work on Valentine and Open Skyz, and on into his solo releases, Hugo's albums have gotten progressively less rocking and more ballad oriented. This is understandable, given the total Steve Perry-ness of the man's voice. It's simply too beautiful for the average rock songs.

Time on Earth may be lighter fare than most melodic rock fans would prefer, but it is still a good album. Similar to the band Street Talk, the album has plenty of ballads, and the tracks that aren't ballads are still very laid back songs. What the album lacks in energy, it makes up for in overall appeal. Hugo's voice is like honey, and Ten guitarist Vinnie Burns helps make sure that even though it doesn't rock, the album is still musically quite solid. Plus, the cover of Triumph's "Magic Power" is a nice touch.

This album will probably have something of a limited appeal. Hugo devotees will of course want to add Time on Earth to their collection, and fans of Journey, Steve Perry's solo albums, and the band Street Talk will no doubt find this album enjoyable. If you want something that rocks a bit more, you're probably better off with the latest releases by Bonfire, Fair Warning, or Gotthard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hugo is amazing! Vocals better than Steve Perry., July 18, 2000
This review is from: Time on Earth (Audio CD)
This is the JOURNEY album I have been waiting for all of my life. WOW! Can't stop Loving you and This Love Song are the 2 best songs of ALL TIME! I am not lying here. OF ALL TIME.

This Love Song starts mellow and blasts into one of the greatest all time rockers of the millennium. Hugo is the most undiscovered great artist of our time. IF you love Journey and Steve Perry, you will totally love Hugo.

What an album.....20 stars!

Hugo's second solo CD is not as good as his self-titled first CD, but until the arrival of "Arrival" it is better than anything you will hear on the radio today. (I still listen to the first CD at least a few times each week.) All of the songs are fine, but there are just too many slow tunes. Hugo's fans have come to expect up-beat, crank-it-up rockers, with good production. With this Steve Perry-like schlepp out of his system Hugo will hopefully return to what he does best! With the new Steve Augeri powered Journey CD due out next year, Hugo should release a new CD in '01 and ride the impending wave of quality rock!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not that good, August 14, 2009
This review is from: Time on Earth (Audio CD)
From the start of the first note, the cd had a false hope to it. Can't Stop Loving You had an old fimailar sound to the music, but that is were it ends. The keyboards sound distant and faint. Hugo starts singing and he sounds hollow. the chourus kick in and it comes across the outer edges of the sound spectrum giving it a distant light touch when it should pick up the song, it distracts from it. Not a good start. One saving grace for this song is the guitar, it is clean and clear. Tell It To My Heart has a good chorus, and an ok build up to it. And Hugo pulls off some vocals on it, especially at the end of the song, holding the note over the guiatr. But this is one of the few bright spots on this cd. Last One More Time could have been a vocal thriumph for Hugo, but the vocals seemed slurred and the high notes unnessecary. He seems to be worried about trying to be Steve Perry, and the song shows his short comings on it. Passionate vocals isn't always about going high as you can. Anyone In Love sounds beauitiful, but comes across as a very boring song. Fine shows some fire to it, something this cd is very lacking in, but at times Hugo vocals on this song are almost grating. The tone of this whole cd is bland. Blues For You, is one of the two really standout songs on this cd. Hugo sings with a passion that seems to be missing for most of this cd. The playing by the band also shows a deep burning fire. If rest of the cd could have been like this...IF!!! This Love Song, I Will Be Waiting, and Our Love Will Be There are just plain boring. Everytime I listen to these songs, I can not help but think what a waste of talent. The other outstnading song on this cd is Thriumph's Magic Power, Hugo delivery and vocal power is great, the band shows life too. The cd closes with what could have been another great song, I like the song, I just don't like the production on this song. Heck, I don't like the production on the whole cd to be honest. Poor material, poor production, lifeless singing and playing. Only 3, maybe 4 songs I listen to on the whole cd. Shame, because Hugo is talented.
