5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Book, March 13, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: A Time to Grieve: Meditations for Healing After the Death of a Loved One (Paperback)
I just finished reading this book. I was up all night. I agree with the other reviewers that generally, this book is not a cover to cover read. In 1985, I was 23 and lost my fiance. As I struggled through the grief, I found little comfort or understanding from my friends and family. I turned to literature. I found few good books, the Courage to Grieve was the best and a great source of comfort. But, Oh how I wish this book was there then!

A dear friend died a few weeks ago and I have been looking for ways to help and support her husband. I came across this title from other Amazon reviewers. I'm not very good with words-- and this book captured a swirl of complex thoughts and feelings and put them into words. It encourages, it asks you to be gentle with yourself, it tells you the true meaning of courage--TO FEEL-- and it keeps reminding you--hold onto your hope no matter the depth of your pain or the severity of your isolation. You will make it through the grief. This author has given us-- the broken (and mended) hearted a very special gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars a treasured book, June 6, 2001

This review is from: A Time to Grieve: Meditations for Healing After the Death of a Loved One (Paperback)
After my fiance passing away in July of 99, I felt I had nowhere to turn. I decided finally to help myself get thru the grieving process and I bought this book as one of my first steps. I absolutely love this book, it's not something that has to be read from front to back. It's something where you can read the meditations that you can relate to. I have ordered so many copies of this book for myself and have ended up giving them away to friends who have needed it. It shows you that everything you are feeling is normal and how to accept all the feelings that are experienced w/ grieving the loss of a loved one. On my last session w/ my grievance counselor...I gave her my last copy of this book. I knew she would appreciate it and that it may help other clients like it helped me.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent companion to help one get through grieving, August 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: A Time to Grieve: Meditations for Healing After the Death of a Loved One (Paperback)
I found this book after losing a second long-awaited and much desired pregnancy. I found this book enormously helpful to process the grief and isolation I felt in the months that followed. I have since given it to any friend who has sadly lost a loved one. It is honest, compassionate and mature. I recommend it highly.

4.0 out of 5 stars The only book that gave me hope that I might be happy again., November 22, 1998
This review is from: A Time to Grieve: Meditations for Healing After the Death of a Loved One (Paperback)
My husband and best friend died unexpectedly 4 months ago. He was 33. Ours had been a stormy and volatile relationship. After he died I found out things about him I really did not want to know. However I grieved and continue to grieve despite realising he had lied to me for the duration of our relationship. this book was the only one that addressed this issue. How do you go about grieving someone you loved deeply, but find out after their death that they were not the person you thought they were? Staudacher was not afraid to tackle this most painful situation and offer advice and support. For those who try and intelluctualise their way out of grief I recommend A Time To Grieve. My only criticism would be that it stresses 'forgiveness' too much. There are some that cannot be forgiven, in this life anyway.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Thoughtful and Comforting Book, November 1, 2005
This review is from: A Time to Grieve: Meditations for Healing After the Death of a Loved One (Paperback)
"The death of a loved one is, for most of us, the most profound emotional experience we will ever have to endure," writes Carol Staudacher in her book, A Time To Grieve. My dad died in 2001 and my brother died in 2002, and I was overwhelmed with grief.

I found this book to be truly comforting and reassuring. Each page provides a relevant quote to ponder, a short meditation on some aspect of grief, and an affirmation to help face the day. It helped me understand and accept my feelings. It helped me feel less alone. The book is easy to read, yet also addresses the many profound emotions of grief with great understanding.

I read many books on grief before I found this one. If you are suffering from grief and looking for a safe place to find comfort, I highly recommend this kind, insightful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Livesaver ..., August 6, 2003
This review is from: A Time to Grieve: Meditations for Healing After the Death of a Loved One (Paperback)
I bought this book 2.5 years ago when my father died very suddenly. I can't count the number of times it has helped me thru every emotion I could possibly feel. I literally go thru it every night before bed and when times get tough. Even going thru a friend's daughter's death at the moment, I find the book such a help to identify and help me thru a particular feeling or down moment.

I like that its not a typical self-help-grief book in that it doesn't harp on the stages of grief - but it quotes actual feelings, and offers explanations, and then a meditation. Such a great combo.

I've bought it several times over the last 2 years for friends and family who have lost someone dear to them. They all agree, that this little book is a lifesaver.

5.0 out of 5 stars A well written, insightful and comforting book., February 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A Time to Grieve: Meditations for Healing After the Death of a Loved One (Paperback)
Each page in this book offers something a grieving person can identify with. Reading this book has enlightened, reassured and comforted me. It has helped me understand that I am "normal" and I will get through the grief process in my own way. Each page is complete in itself and can be read in order or at random and each offers thought-provoking material. I have given this book as a gift to other people and strongly recommend it to everyone who has lost a someone dear to them.
