I first discovered Christy as a member of the Irish supergroup, Planxty. Then I began listening to his solo work. This CD contains a nice selection of songs, from the jaunty "Lanigan's Ball" to the poignant ballad, "Only Our Rivers Run Free". If you have never heard Christy, and would like a great introductory CD, this one is a wonderful place to start. I never skip a song when I listen to this CD!

Great CD by great artist. Everything Christy Moore does is great. This is no exception. Keep it up. He signs many original songs.

Why does Christy Moore have a propensity towards singing depressing tunes? Don't get me wrong, he is a master of the depressing and mournful tune. And, yet he can be really funny at times. But, where is the joy? Admittedly its much easier to pen a dirge than to write with heartfelt joy. Perhaps Christy needs to change his vision of life - he could start by listening to Bach and Mozart but I suspect that won't be enough to change the record as it appears embedded in a groove.

This is one of the finest Irish folk albums ever recorded, a glorious, soulful set from the singer Christy Moore, a founding member of the folk-revival supergroup Planxty, and one of the pillars of the international folk movement. In my opinion, this album is his career high point: every song is evocative and haunting. It is a must-have record... highly recommended! (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue Guide To World Music)
