5.0 out of 5 stars Great early compilation - Bob's spirit lives on, February 2, 2001

This review is from: Time Has Come: The Best Of Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers (Audio CD)
One of my favorite reggae albums. I have had either the CD or cassette of this since it was first released. This is good spiritual music, with a ton of youthful excitement, that carries the emotion and message of their late great father. This music is not identical to Bob's, it's a little lighter, with more of a rock/pop production style. But it's still reggae. Very good reggae. If you like reggae or just getting into reggae this a great album. Unless you've followed reggae for a decade or more, you might not have heard this music before. It gets far less airplay than their late 80's/early 90's releases (Concious Party, One Bright Day era.) It may not be as sophisticated as his later releases, but this is still excellent music. This release introduced a lot of my friends to reggae. Many of them liked it and expanded their tastes to a lot of other reggae artists. Thanks Ziggy, Stephen, Sharon and Cedella for your great music over the years. This album brings back a lot of excellent memories. It's good summertime party music too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Say People, August 27, 2007
This review is from: Time Has Come: The Best Of Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers (Audio CD)
This is an excellent collection of ZM&MM's best early work. I thought (from the look of the cover) that this would all be really weak because they look so young (not even any dreadlocks yet). I was pleasently surprised. This cd has a lot of the old Wailers playing instruments behind Bob's kids. I wouldn't recommend this if you don't own any other ZM&MM albums yet, but if you have a healthy dose of their later work, get this. Most of the songs were recorded only a couple of years before the definitive "Conscious Party." The best songs here are "Aiding and Abetting," "Say People," and "Naah Leggo." There aren't any songs that I would consider bad. I don't regularly skip any of them. Don't be fooled by the cover, this is good conscious reggae.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Music, April 13, 2007

On one sunny Summer Day in New York City, I was fortunate to witness LIVE these gifted Marley's kids in Central Park West. They played some of the songs on this CD. Nonetheless, this CD is gooood from first to the last song. Israel King: Author/Publisher of: How To Keep A Man

5.0 out of 5 stars The Early Days, January 7, 2000
This review is from: Time Has Come: The Best Of Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers (Audio CD)
This compliation is the only place to find the old favorites of the "Play the Game Right" album that is no longer in publication. As such, it is the truest look at the beginning sounds of the "Legendary Children." It is a can't miss for true lovers of the Marley sound, as the harmonic genius of the Melody Makers comes shining through! For those of us who wore out their original tape of "Play the Game Right" this is the only way to get to hear the original cuts that set to define the Ziggy of today.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Oldies Come Alive!, January 7, 2000
This review is from: Time Has Come: The Best Of Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers (Audio CD)
Stated briefly, this compliation from the early days of Ziggy is the only true look at the beginning sounds of the "Legendary Children." As such, their harmonic and smooth voices are displayed in song after song and the experimental sounds of 80's reggae (like much of the music of the 80's) come shining through. Long-time Ziggy fans will find this the only offering on the market of songs from the original "Play the Game Right" album that established Ziggy and the band as more than just children trying to capitalize on the Marley fame. This is a must own for anyone who claims to be a true Ziggy fan, or for people (like myself) who played that original tape so much, they wore it out only to find out ten years later it was no longer being produced.
