3.0 out of 5 stars Evelyn Beats the Odds For Success., August 9, 2006
This review is from: The Time of Her Life (Paperback)
Poor Evelyn, they called her behind her back. Because she had a mean-spirited, abusive husband, people felt sorry for her and had very little good to say about her behind her back. They just didn't know that Evelyn felt blessed to have her own home and family away from the abusive father down South. By the age of fifty-five, she finds herself alone with all the children grown and the mean husband killed in a truck accident in Tennessee; forced by circumstances, she has to sell her home of many years, move to a larger town and get a job.

It sounds pretty miserable, but Evelyn had survival skills and common sense some of us find lacking. Her first job is satisfying but not very lucrative so life has come to a standstill and she must learn to climb the ladder to success. Having been a beauty before she married at the age of twenty-one, she'd failed to keep her figure as she was a housewife and mother first and foremost. However, in the business world, she found she could dress the way she had always wanted to and shine; with her good humor and friendly manner, she was soon at the head of the staff and living the life of Riley. Not only did she look ten years younger, she had a new perspective as a single woman to enjoy what life had dealt to her.

Friends and acquaintances could not longer look down on Evelyn and make her feel inferior. She was having the time of her life and made trips to Florida as a confident woman of means. Her small apartment in the middle of town provided her with a place to come to when life outside become overbearing and no one to discuss matters with. Her old boyfriend she had been destined to marry started a long-distance romance over the phone. She felt flattered but was not ready to change her lifestyle to try to re-capture the blossom of her first love. She had a good, fulfilling career and became the person who won many awards for excellence in her field and was known as a friend to all. She made people feel good with her marvelous smile which reached to her sparkling eyes and told the world, "I love you; thanks."
