sophie zelmani,
By Iris Chen (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Time to Kill (Audio CD)
this is the 3rd album by zelmani, a extraordinarily gifted singer-songwriter from sweden. i first heard her voice on the my best friend's wedding soundtrack ["Always You"] and was immediately struck by how warmly soothing and evocative her singing was. not one to resort to vocal pyrotechnics, her style is much more subtle, understated and gracefully elegant. her songs are usually mellow folk songs with gentle delicate melodies and eclectic touches such as the use of the sounds of a whiplash or tap dance and feature often melancholic, dreamy and introspective lyrics. unfortunately, she seems to be little known outside of sweden. she was the only singer i could listen to while studying for my finals because her songs touch and move one with such effortless grace. a rare gem.

Zelmani's New Album One Of The Best Of The Year,
By Brian Skeet (London, London Great Britain) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Time to Kill (Audio CD)
I bought this last weekend in Stockholm during the 10th Anniversary of their film festival and haven't stopped playing it since. It really is a wonderful album, beautifully played, gorgeously sung and she's such a gifted song writer. In a year that has seen some extraordinary albums overlooked (Everything But The Girl, Leomoon, Misadventures of St. Etienne, Madreblu, Anja Garbarek) by large audiences flocking to buy dreary albums by Macy Gray, Steps, Britney Spears etc, I really hope that they get with it this time and buy this wonderful album by Scandanavian songstress, Sophie Zelmani. With her haunting voice - at times reminding me of Lisa Germano - the album's tracks slip into your head and won't let go. Buy it and see. You will not be disappointed.

"Time to kill" is one of the best cds i've ever heard. Never heard songs with such grace, fragility and beauty. Especially "My" & "Dreamer" are so beutiful that you will stop breathing while listening!! Definitly worth buying

A stunning album from a lady with a stunning voice. Even your wife couldn't object to Sophie's sultry voice filling the void of your living room, no matter whether as an accompaniement to dinner with good friends, or just soothing the void on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Buy it, you definitely won't regret it.
