2.0 out of 5 stars Once interesting, but now badly dated, January 3, 2009
This review is from: Time-Life Books: Understanding Computers (24 Volumes) (Hardcover)
These were (in Time-Warner classic family oriented reference series fashion) actually quite interesting and moderately useful overview books back when they first came out in the mid 1980's (call it 4 stars), but 20 years of rapid technological progress have since left them horribly dated (2 stars).

Their chief value now is historical, nostalgia and wall decoration for one's library - if you're fortunate enough to have the spare room for them.

I'll probably put my set out for recycling soon ... the local library doesn't want them, and I'm sure my alma mater's comp sci department would probably snicker at me if I offered them.
